I just (finally!) picked up my 4x2 F150 Powerboost. The payload is 1933 which is very close to my calculations.
When i was shopping last spring I liked the 2.7 engine - but by the time I added locking differential, payload package, and bigger gas tank there was not a lot of difference in price.
I got the 2.4 inverter which will be plenty to charge batteries on my 5.0 if I have a week of rain.

I just tested the Progressive Industries EMS on bypass and juiced by the 2.4kw Powerboost and it performed flawlessly. Eventually I'll make a plug to bond the neutral and ground and then I won't need to put the EMS on bypass mode. I'm going to pass my Honda 2000 on to my son who has no solar, no generator, and no powerboost

Powerboost Mileage

Been averaging 10.1 liters/100k (23.3 mpg) commuting which is a combination of highway and city. My first camping trip with the Escape 19 and Kayaks on the truck racks averaged 14.6 L/kph (16.2 mpg) with cruise control locked at 100 kph (63 mph) in tow/haul mode. Even did a little bit of electric only driving when I tried Eco mode.

Hi Dave, curious to know how you transport your kayaks while towing with your F-150. You said you use truck racks. Are those racks installed on the sides of truck bed? What brand? Do you have any photos with the kayaks loaded on the truck?

We’ve already purchased (but not yet installed) Yakima Overhaul HD towers with 68” Yakima HD bars. The height adjustment capability was important to us (so we can get in and out of the garage with the towers on). We’re waiting for delivery of a Retrax Pro XR bed cover with the integrated t-slots. Just curious to know what setup you went with, and how it’s working out for you so far.

Thanks.

No pics of kayak racks yet. Previous truck (Ram 1500) had a Bakflip tonneau with integral racks (I don't think these are available anymore) that attached to specialized rails holding the lid. After trying a number of different things including kayak brackets, I decided that living in a rain forest meant the kayaks (12') should be upside down. I trimmed some cedar 2x4's to suit the deck profile and ratchet strap over top. Similar setup this time but regular Bakflip cover with Adarac Aluminum Pro. F150 front stake pockets are covered but I routered out the plastic and the result looks good. The rails are permanently bolted down but I remove the rack portion when not in use. I trimmed the top rails flush to the vertical supports so it looks less like a work truck (aluminum so my mitre saw did a perfect job).

One very bad pic of the racks --- between the trees---through the smoky haze and pollen.

Thanks for the comments and photo. Nice setup. Looks very sturdy. Good luck with your camping and kayaking. We’re looking forward to getting out there soon.
