The method of hunting whether it be spot and stalk, still hunting ( sleeping and waiting for one to walk by) are done under the pretext of the term fair chase. There are legal obligations as well as ethical practices. Example: Shooting an animal stuck in deep snow. The Wikipedia resource under “fair chase” pretty well explains things. Safety is a major consideration also.
Such as shooting at a Silhouetted animal where there is no backstop. As in many activities in life, there are those who view the activity as fair or not fair. If a person can’t figure it out or jokes about an action that is clearly not right, I try not to talk with them again.
Campers washing dishes at “Community” water source comes to mind as highly unethical but not rare and at times not specifically called out as against the rules.
That’s my take on it.
