3 way Dometic refer setting in an Escape19'
I opted for the Dometic 3 way refer, standard in the 17' Escape, to be installed in my new 19'. With solar, I can operate the refer on 12v, it draws 6 a/h, but my solar is replenishing with 7 a/h. On 120 and propane I set the temperature at the warmest, #1 on the scale. I have two remote sensors and 2 standard thermometers, in freezer and refer. I have a refer fan also.
On this setting, I'm at 5 degrees in the freezer and 38 in the refer. When I moved the setting to the middle one, I get -1 in freezer and 34 in the refer.
I'm intending on leaving it on the warmest setting unless I have to make it cooler.
Now I have to figure out a fix for the factory thumb screw lock on the table. Has anyone come up with a better idea?

Re: 3 way Dometic refer setting in an Escape19'
Hippo came up with a great modification for the table lock. Here is a link to photos and instructions on how to install it. https://sites.google.com/site/1bosel...stalling_latch
Hope this helps.
Happy trails,
Linda

Our table top slides for access on the drivers side, I assume this is the case for all 19's. Why would you want to lock it, would it not be a pain for getting in?

Jim. the lock just keeps the table from moving side-to-side while traveling down the road. You unlock the table while camping.

Ah, gotcha.
I have never been it the trailer to see if it moves much while travelling.

If you have the stock solar panel that Escape Trailers installs it charges at 5.5 amps under optimum conditions and you are more than likely only going to get around 4 amps in bright sunlight with it mounted on the roof. http://gpelectric.com/products/95-watt-solar-module
I highly doubt that you would be able to operate the fridge for any length of time using 12v and the solar panel. If it's drawing current 50% of the time then you will be using 72 amps per day and if you continuously had 12 hours of bright sunlight every day (which I doubt) then you would be replenishing 48 amps leaving you short 24 amp hrs. Also I think you will find the #1 setting too warm once you start opening and shutting the fridge during the day.
I had this fridge in my 17B and found that the #3 setting was good for most situations other than when it got very hot during the day then I would use #4 in the day and #3 at night. When run on gas this fridge uses very little propane; a 20 lb. bottle would last me about 30 days and I think you would find this the best option when boondocking.

Re: 3 way Dometic refer setting in an Escape19'
I would only use the 12v option towing, once stationary I'd switch to propane. So maybe 8 hours @ 50% would be 48 a/h less 40 from the solar- net draw of 8 which my tow vehicle may match or if not I have plent reserve in my battery. Towing at night would change the parameters.

Re: 3 way Dometic refer setting in an Escape19'
Jim,
I am currently having a 19' built and am looking at the larger 3 way fridge offered. Current draw is a consideration.
BTW, your post topic really get hijacked by a couple of folks that just need to talk about their table locks!... ... they probably started reading your post and forgot the subject...

Re: 3 way Dometic refer setting in an Escape19'
When I ordered mine, the options were the smaller 3 way or the bigger 2 way. Towing while on propane has it's drawbacks and I wanted the 12v option. With solar it can be done. But you need to know the draw of the larger refer on 12v. I had a 5 cu/ft 3 way and the draw was 9 a/h. Without solar it could not be done. I also found that the smaller 3.5 or 3.3 is adequate for food. My libations are in a cooler with my ice which you will need a cooler for anyway. I carry it in the bath without any issue. I think if you start loading the refer with beer/soda on the door, you may have issues down the road. That is why I put only food in mine.
