If both have the 6.5' bed then the Supercab will be 13" shorter.

Fair enough, around here you very rarely ever see a 4 dr crew cab with a 6.5' box, they all seem to be the 5.5' so I guess that was where I was coming from.

The Super Crew with the 6 1/2' box is very common around here, but most are used for working with. Cab layout can differ for what works best for you, but for the life of me, I just can't fathom the desire for a 5 1/2' box, as they just look funnier, and carry less stuff which is their purpose. They are popular with others tough. This is my first truck with less than an 8' bed.

In February I had some work done at a local Ford dealer and spoke to the sales manager who was in the process of ordering trucks for his dealership. He said most crewcabs he was ordering were with the 6.5 box, apparently very popular in southern Manitoba.

Here in upstate NY I looked at over 200 F 150's in 2018 and not one had a 6 1/2' bed on a SuperCrewCab. Pretty much standard on the SuperCab.

I had to go with the 3.5L engine to get the Super Crew and 6 1/2' bed. You can't get these 2 options with a 2. 7L. Any other combo, no problem.

And I would likely go for that combo next time, although I'd have to build a new garage to house that long a truck Then I'd likely need your help Jim. We have a great MB rally in August, maybe not this year but next

So then, garage building next summer, I'm in.

One of the reasons I went with the Super Cab instead of the Super Crew was that I wanted the 6.5' bed. If I'd wanted a Super Crew with a 6.5 box I'd have to have special ordered it. When I was looking probably 70% of the trucks on the lots were 2.7 litre too.

I guess in Alberta you guys use them as trucks here in the Fraser Valley the're used as family vehicles and they just want a large trunk.

There are multiple wheelbase choices for the F-150 (seven for the 2020 model year, from 122.4" to 163.7", or five if you count 144.1" & 145.0" & 146.0"), allowing for several combinations of cab and box length. Both the SuperCab 6.5' and the SuperCrew 5.5' box have 145.0" wheelbase, but the you can still have a SuperCrew with 6.5' box on a 156" wheelbase. Those are three of the eight available cab and box length combinations. Not all cab and box combinations are available in all trims and with all engines.

This is typical of full-size truck lineups, especially from Ford, GM, and Ram. With some other truck models, there is much less choice. Ford's Ranger, for instance, has only one wheelbase, with only two cab and box length combinations, so what you gain in the box does directly come out of the cab, and vice versa.

I didn't notice the omission until after the editing time window expired.

There are huge numbers of Ford pickups used for real work here... and most are SuperDuty models. Most F-150s (and Silverado/Sierra 1500, and Ram 1500, etc) are used as cars and as tugs for toys, just as they are everywhere else. Even the ones with company names on the side are mostly used for one or two people to drive to a worksite, not carrying anything of significance. Commute to work downtown (when the offices reopen) and you'll go crazy trying to count all of the pickups with an empty box and one occupant.

We have a 2018 F150, 2.7 EB, 5.5 box and 5.O TA. I am totally impressed with the power in the mountains. The ten speed transmission (available first in 2018 I believe) works great. Downhill in mountains I switch to manual. Works great. I highly discourage the 5.5 box, though.

+1 on the 2.7 and 5.5 box. Tows like a dream, great combo. I got the truck before I knew Escape 5.0TA existed. I'd go for a 6.5 bed if buying a new one.

I bought a used 2015 F150 with the 3.5L and 3.55 axle 1733 lb payload. I very happy with it. I really wanted to go with the smaller pickups and looked hard at the GM Canyon / Colorado and the Ford Ranger. We do get the F150 in the double garage, but it does fill up it's half. I think I would not have been happy with the amount of room in the box with the smaller pickups.

At the time I was looking, I would have bought either a SuperCrew or SuperCab. I knew I wanted the Lariat or higher model and I wanted the payload over 1500 lbs. It seems there are a lots of SuperCabs compared to SuperCrews so I ended up with the SuperCab. I mounted the Andersen Ultimate rail mount 2" behind the axle. This gives me plenty of room for 90 degree turns as well as between the lowered tailgate and the trailer.

I would do the same if I had a SuperCab. The reason being with the Andersen mount moved back I have lots of room between the lowered tailgate and the trailer. It seems many need to raise the tailgate before they can hitch up with generally just 1-2 inches of clearance when the tailgate is down. You have that same situation with either the 5.5 or 6.5 box as the distance from the axle to the tailgate is the same, so for that situation there is not an advantage in having the 6.5 box. If you mount the hitch in the standard location 2" in front of the axle, the 6.5 box gives you plenty of room for 90 degree turns, but the tailgate to the trailer is quite tight.

For us, being we pack heavy, we are probably better off with the 5.5 box, it does limit us. Although all that room in the back seat could also become a temptation. Hopefully we are done adding.

Thanks for the input every one. We are trading the dually 350 on Saturday for a 2020 Lariat 3.5L and 5.5' box. No dealership around here has the 6.5 bed or tow mirrors or payload package. So I get 1523 payload. I'll pack wisely, it's just my wife and I . For tow mirrors they make some OEM looking slide ons I will use. I bought inventory off the lot for 0% 72 mos. Free money there. Now to save some money to get the 5.0 late this year or Spring 2021.

We had the dealership do a search and the 2019 F150 we wanted was only 150 miles away. Our 2019 Lariat, 3.5L, 6.5' box, quad cab, has 1738#'s of payload.

If it's not too late have them do an extended search. We found our 2015 the same way, in Duluth, 260 miles away.

Enjoy,

Perry

Congratulations! Just curious, that's a SuperCrew or SuperCab?
