So I get 1523 payload. I'll pack wisely, it's just my wife and I . For tow mirrors they make some OEM looking slide ons I will use. I bought inventory off the lot for 0% 72 mos. Free money there. Now to save some money to get the 5.0 late this year or Spring 2021.

That is why I had to order mine. I got the 3.5L SuperCab, 6.5' bed, tow mirrors, 36 gallon tank, tow package #1 and 1826 lb payload. Of course, now is not the time to be ordering a built to order truck...

I wonder if the stock on new car lots is getting thin.

Same down here in Austin Texas. Maybe wrong but I've the general impression that in spite of decent selection and some good manufacturer + dealer incentives the actual sales traffic is way down at the moment.
Austin is also well-situated for inventory search-and-swap with many, many Ford, Chevy, RAM, and even Toyota dealers in a workable ~200 mile radius.
Probably a good time to shop and buy if so inclined and capable.

If it's not too late have them do an extended search. We found our 2015 the same way, in Duluth, 260 miles away.

I was able to log onto a Ford Canada stock list, me find all the F150s available in Canada, and could refine the search. I found one locally with everything I wanted, actually more, except for the tailgate step. Near the end of a year and got a great deal on it too.

I guess I was very lucky as far as timing was concerned. I ordered mine, a 3.5L EB Super Cab, max towing package, locking rear differential (I don’t need and wouldn’t use 4WD; no need to pay increased insurance premiums), 36 gal fuel tank in January. It was assembled on February 28 in Dearborn, just a couple of weeks before the supply chain really became questionable. I’ve now managed to complete all but one of the modifications and additions to closely duplicate my lightning electrocuted previous truck (it was a 2.7L EB). Only awaiting delivery of a Roadmaster Active Suspension that I ordered through an RV and truck accessory outlet. They were forced to close as a “non-essential” business due to stay-at-home restrictions so even if it comes in, I cannot retrieve it until the restrictions are eased, possibly in a couple of weeks? And I have managed to accumulate 960 of the 1,000 miles Ford “recommends” on the odometer so it is ready to tow the 5.0TA. While the Roadmaster is a phenomenal enhancement, it is not a necessity.

Likewise here in PNW I had local dealership find my close to spec truck. He found 2 that I deliberated over how they were optioned. Decided on one and he managed to trade orders with nearby dealership that had it being built. I ended up getting a new off the line truck from Kansas plant with 72km when I picked up. Because it was a trade with other dealership it wasn't a special order and I wheeled and dealed on truck similar to off the lot.

I pull my 5.0 with a 2018 Tacoma, no worries. But my 5.0 is older, only 1 axle and may have less tongue weight. I love the combination.

Ford Ranger
I’m towing my 5.0 TA with a 2019 Ford Ranger with the 2.3 eco boost. 6’2” bed. Works fine, no problem with power or handling.

Just a idea, go to your local Ford Dealership and talk to the service guys which
of the engines they would want in their F-150. Probably 90% will say the Ford 5.0 engine over the EC engines. Turbo's are nice when their right but when they have a problem it's neither easy or cheap.
The 5.0 engine will give you plenty of payload capacity and tow capability. Plus last you way longer.
It would be great for your trailer.

Yes, the Coyote 5.0 is a great motor. I have one in my 2016 Mustang GT, 435Hp, a lot more than my 1966 Mustang with a straight 6.

These days you can't even see the mechanics at a dealer, just the pencil pushers at the service desk area. Used to be the service mgr was a long time mechanic, not any more.

I must have an old fashioned Ford dealership because the service manager and service writers have absolutely no problem with having the technicians speak to customers. However, due to insurance regulations they will accompany you to the tech’s work area. Actually, my Ford dealership is one of the two best I have ever dealt with. The other was a Toyota dealer in New Hampshire. The worst was a Chrysler dealership in New Hampshire. I don’t know how much wrenching experience the service manager has, but I know he is extremely knowledgeable about Ford products, the service writers, very polite but not so knowledgeable.

Interestingly enough, the top salesman at my local dealer was a V-8 proponent for many years. He now is a proponent of the EB engines. And most of the technicians working there who own Ford trucks chose the EB. Furthermore, they tell me that reliability and longevity is not a major issue with the EB, nor is repair cost if ever needed. And, from what I have been told, Ford put the EB through more intensive testing than any other engine they have ever produced. I am reminded of those who still claim that storing a battery on concrete will result in its demise. True, when battery cases were rubber; no longer true with cases made of plastic. I would respectfully ask if you have data to back up your statement that the V-8 will last much longer, or if you are just repeating opinions that have not been confirmed in real time. If you like your Ford V-8, I would hold onto it because everything I have read is that Ford has reduced production of the Coyote as demand for the EB far surpasses demand for the V-8. I had well over 100,000 miles on my first EB, a 3.5 L 2012. I had close to 50,000 miles on my 2015 2.7 L when it died, not from engine failure but from EMP caused electronics destruction from a lightning strike. I don’t dislike the Coyote V-8; I’ve owned one. But when I had to recently replace my 2015 F-150, I chose the EB without a second thought. However, each to their own!

I have no problems talking to mechanics and since I purchased our first, 2015, 3.5 EB ask about it's reliability. The second mechanic I asked was still skeptical about the EB, but the first and subsequent mechanics have all said it's on the of most reliable engines Ford produces. It's the electronics that they work on most, EB or V8, doesn't matter.
Enjoy,
Perry
