FWIW, the cargo weight was figured by subtracting the trailer weight from the GVWR.

At one point the cargo carrying capacity also allowed for the weight of a full freshwater tank and full water heater - this was normal practice for any manufacturer (and should be). This might not be done any more, but as
discussed in an earlier thread, Jim's 2016 came with a label clearly showing this calculation.
In that case (the photo attached) the dry empty weight implied by the GVWR and cargo capacity (1545 kg or 3406 lb) is higher than the published base dry weight (for that year and model), so it presumably accounts for factory-installed options.
