Anderson coupler on my 5.0TA

I installed an Andersen Ultimate coupler on my new-to-me 5.0TA about a month sago. I used a single bolt through the remote latch bracket into the 1/2” hole behind the kingpin . I was not happy with that setup because it moved when used. Then the light went on! I took the nuts, washer & knob off the remote latch, then fed it through two 1/2 “ holes, & tightened the latch cable in one of the holes. Works great now, no movement. Don’t know if anyone has used this arrangement .

Great idea! So good the Bob at ETI does that when setting up your tow vehicle for your 5.0 at your orientation. Or at least did for US buyers before the border closure.

I notice that RichardD has a piece of yellow tape down the middle of the front of his pinbox. I did that too and also have a 1-foot piece of cardboard shipping tube that I jam onto the Andersen ball just before I back up to hitch. Then, using my rear view mirror, I keep the shipping tube lined up with the tape so I can back in straight to connect. When the pinbox knocks the tube off the ball, I know I have only a few more inches to go until I'm ready to connect.

When Richard was kind enough to show me his 5.0 a few weeks ago I noticed a little magnetic doohickey with a ball in the front storage cupboard. I have a feeling this might be something you “stick” on the hitch ball to serve the same purpose as the tube when backing up. I’ve seen that trick a few times in the forums.

Me too! We get ours pretty soon and I didn’t like self tap screw mounting bracket. I guess you unscrew the T handle and remove the rest from that end. I haven’t looked at the locking pin side since it looked easy enough on the handle side.

Thumbs up

Tip 1 - If picking up your trailer and installing your own coupler block as I did, just use zip-ties to hold the release cable bracket in a convenient location without drilling holes in anything, then route the cable as described when you get home.

Tip 2 - Zip-tie a short section of split-loom tubing around the cable where it passes through pinbox hole to prevent long-term chafing of the cable housing.

Just for your consideration, Have Fun!
