As you study that excellent reference, keep in mind that the Andersen Coupler Block offsets the trailer kingpin either 4" forward or 4" backward (depending on your choice of Coupler Block orientation). This Coupler Block offset is shown in the Andersen Dimension drawings attached in my previous post.

That effectively moves the trailer's 'pivot point', making literal application of the table on page 6 of that ETI document showing cab clearance impossible when using the Andersen Hitch. It's a 'small' difference, but again can be meaningful if your horizontal clearances, particularly between the pin-box and the tailgate / bed-sides / outside corner of the truck box, are close. This Coupler Block offset also bears on the space available to drop the tailgate (the distance between the truck and the front of the trailer when hitched).

The attached may help illustrate this, showing the effect of the Andersen Coupler Block when oriented behind the trailer kingpin (the orientation that gives maximum clearance between the back of the pin-box and the inside of the raised tailgate / bed-sides, but reduces the clearance between the truck and the trailer available for dropping the tailgate when hitched).

Have fun!

I have a question about one of the measurements from the towing guide.
Escape says that the distance from the pin pivot point to the rear of the pin box is 32".
It seems you would need 32" from your hitch pivot point to the inside edge of your truck box side to avoid contact with the pin box when making a sharp turn.

So 64" total box width to avoid contact with the bed side.
My f 150 measures 62.5" between the bed sides.

Does this mean I risk contact with the sides of my bed if I use any hitch other than the Andersen with the pin adapter turned to the rear?
Am I missing something here?

My f 150 is no different than any other and I'm sure someone must be towing their 5.0ta with a conventional hitch.

I was wondering if someone check their trailer to verify if the distance is actually 32"

Thanks,
Kevin

With the rail version we can haul one of our trikes in the bed of the truck. There is no way the trike would fit with the gooseneck version. On the other side from the trike we can put a decent size box next to the rail hitch, whereas with the gooseneck version it would only take a narrow box, too narrow for us.

Enjoy,

Perry
