We tried a front hitch, and it did help us "turn more sharply" when we could figure out when and how much to turn. With our difficult parking spot, that was the hard part -- and no one in the family is willing to guide me in.
Since I can't see the curbside dangers -- and they are plentiful -- we figured out a way to let me steer using a "glide path" for the driver-side trailer tires. It works, to a point -- there is still the need to get out and look many times. Some sort of camera setup is in order, but I haven't found one that looks both viable and affordable. Saving up my pennies, and getting out and looking a lot.
And, yeah, if anyone asks us about the dots, we call it an art installation.
I like the "Glide Path" idea. Unfortunately my driveway is curved going uphill. My backing and mirror skills are pretty good from driving 60' articulated transit busses for a living. (one of my 5 careers) But where I want my trailer the geometry doesn't work with my tow vehicle attached. I would have to tear out a rock retaining wall on our garden to allow the front of my truck to swing into the correct position. (Rock wall hidden behind foreground leaves on the right in the photo.)
Hi: arniesea... Hello from a Canadian Transit operator. I also drove bendy bus's on University routes. Handled much like a 5.0TA and pickup combo. Loved 'em in the snow... Spent hours stuck while another bus did my work. Alf

True that!! I drove split shifts in Seattle for 6 years while attending college classes during the day. It doesn't snow often in Seattle, but when it did, I always hoped I would get stuck near a coffee shop!
