Necessary or very desirable? I wouldn't tow without them.

For the life of me I can't understand why GM offers a mid size, 6' wide, tug with 7700 # tow capacity (diesel) and those dopey 25" sedan mirrors.
Oh wait...I forgot they're heated.
I'll be ordering a set of Clearview for my 2019 Canyon

Bobnjudy, you will not be sorry! Really like mine and I think they make the truck look more rugged!

Towed our 5 TA about 6000 plus kilometres this winter without tow mirrors down to California and Arizona. Did okay without them but have to admit I just today had my Toyota dealer install the original factory tow mirror option on my Tundra. They are heated, retractable, complete with signal/night lights and a separate blind spot mirror. Going to enjoy the added visibility and safety.

A Tundra is pretty wide: it's just barely under the legal limit (2 metres or 80") before it would need to run wide vehicle identification lights. The 5.0TA is only 10 cm (4") wider on each side at its widest, so even the stock mirrors provide some view straight back past the trailer (because they stick out more than 4").
A current Canyon is about 15 cm (6") narrower than a Tundra, so that's an extra 7 or 8 centimetres (3") that the mirrors need to stick out on each side to get the same view.
Our Sienna is wider than the Canyon, and wide enough across the mirrors to see past our current trailer, but it is the width of an Escape 19' - I would want extended mirrors with anything wider (such as the 21' which is the width of the 5.0TA).

Plenty of competitors in the tow mirror business. I got mine for my 2010 F150 on ebay, about $135 for the pair, plug and play with my heated and mirror remotes.

again i can see very well with my truck mirrors well back behind my truck and trailer -not sure how many feet . i have additional mirrors but i don't use them-- i know others really like additional tow mirror and every truck brand has different mirrors some with more limited visibility.
