I have the offset ball on my shot bed Tundra. I wouldn’t tow without it. You did some testing on level ground and had a little clearance. What I found it is possible to hit the cab with the trailer if turning in uneven pavement or drop the tv in a pot hole etc.. I always use the offset ball and don’t need to even think about hitting the tv with the trailer.

Congratulations and thanks for the great thread with pics sharing your experience
That's clearance for a crazy-sharp turn, not sure I'd want to make that a habit due to stress on axles / tire-scrub, etc, but the clearance for lesser-turns combined with ramp-slope and such certainly looks to be a great benefit. The additional tailgate-down clearance can't hurt either!
Safe to assume that you noted minimal if any change to the 'sag' of the truck due to the slight rearward shift of the load point?

Yes for the first time I was able to open the tailgate while hooked up! Note sure about the sag, I didn't measure..it looked like it went down a bit more when I hooked up but that could have just been in my head. This weekend I am installing a Roadmaster Active Suspension system on the truck which should help with the sag, I will start another thread with the results of that, before and after...

I have the B&W gooseneck mount and can turn 90° no problem. I do have a 6.5' box, which is 18" shorter than any box I have had on a pickup, and I have owned one for 35 years. 5.5' is kinda gimmicky to me as they look funny and carry less. I kinda prefer real trucks, though have downgraded to a 1/2 ton for Escape towing.

In Canada when we measure in imperial units, 65" is only 5'-5". Our inches must just be bigger.

Is your Andersen socket mounted this way?

Yes. If mounted cone forward the hitch box will/may have interference with the sides of the truck bed.

Mine is mounted cone forward towing with a Ford 6.5 bed. I haven’t had any trouble hitting sides, cab, tailgate. Seems if I flipped it around I would have trouble hooking up with the tailgate down. It’s close now but not a problem. Maybe I need to study it some. I thought flipping the cone was for 5.5 beds.

I actually tried it, and quickly moved it back. The pin mount came way to close to the tailgate and bed sides.

This would not be a factor as the distance from hitch to tailgate is the same for both bed lengths.

My mounting was all based on the Andersen instructions and the many measurements they want you to make to determine the pin box location. Sad to hear my truck isn’t real tho….
