My daughter wants something to give me for Christmas, and think I'll try this.
The gain on my brake controller needs to be reduced, and I have several measurements for the truck, trailer, and tongue weight.
I'll try this, see if the results are reasonable, and decide whether to keep or return.

Yep, if friendly early-adopters who've already obtained at least some of these measurements on their rigs "the old fashioned way" could publish the device's subsequent read outs for a comparison, it would sure be nice.

I have the original version of these things, the Haul Gauge, and I have tested a couple parameters. On one trial, I loaded up the back of my 2017 Taco for a trip and weighed and recorded every item that went in on an accurate bathroom scale. Followed the directions in the app to test the payload accuracy. It was pretty close to what I had recorded - within 5%, difficult to tell exactly because the gauge in the app is an analog speedometer type dial. Vehicle weight test was under 5 % of what the doorpost sticker said. I compared tongue weigh with a Sherline scale, again between 5 & 10% difference between the two. So I pretty much use the haul gauge now instead of the Sherline and trust it. Their algorithms seem pretty good. Can’t comment on the Curt but it looks so much like my HaulGauge that I am guessing it is simply rebranded.

Hi, Jim, the BetterWeigh did not work for me. The app didn't detect the VIN from the OBD, so I manually entered the VIN which wasn't in their database - 18 year old truck.
I called the Amazon supplier and was told to wait until 1 or 2 pm when their Amazon rep came to work.
Back it went.

Again, rather then open a new thread on this, has anyone bought and used a HaulGauge or Better Weigh device? If so how is it? etrailer.com has the Better Weigh on sale for $99 and I'm interested.

I have Better Weigh. I can get a tongue weight that seems accurate. I cannot get a trailer weight that is anywhere close. I may be doing something wrong as I haven't messed with it a lot.

There is a manual calibration.
Anyone else have one that can give an update?
I ordered one from Amazon.

Rv’ing for years, and careful with loading, but never weighed, and never swayed. Our last trailer, bought because of price and location, had a layout that made the left side heavier than the right, and was single axle. In planning to get our Escape later this year I started looking at ways I could weigh without having to go to a scale. So I bought this, but haven’t used it yet.

An EBay shop for a UK RV place. It’s around $280 USD. Pricey, but I wanted to weigh more than trailer tongues. The Better Weigh looked like it might or might not be useful depending on who said what. I don’t remember which UK seller specifically.

^ Thanks, Randy (actually inexpensive for a drive-over scale of decent accuracy) ^
So that's about the cost of twenty CAT scale 'weigh + re-weigh' (one with rig-hitched, one with TV only = $14.50 total).
I'm lucky, it's only 15 miles from my house to the CAT Scale (Pilot Travel Center), and the CAT Scale iPhone App makes it a quick drive-through affair, never even have to go into the office (payment by Paypal with emailed weigh tickets all managed in the app).
But, convenience is worth a lot so I can understand the attraction for the device.

Yep a CAT scale would be cheaper if close for a few uses, but I am changing my business some and being able to weigh what rolls 10-20 times a year will pay for it.

Get the Better Weigh app on your phone. You can do the whole weigh right there from the scale. You don't have to go inside and stand in line for your ticket, or press the button to talk to the attendant, or anything.
Simple, fast, and usually $10-$12 for a weigh. I have a scale 20 minutes from my house.

That drive over scale device looks interesting and would give you weights of each tire and any difference in front and rear axel. I have wondered how much attitude or trailer level affected each axel weight. How were the “real world” trailer weights collected?

Okay, here is my initial take on the Better Weigh. I plugged it in my 2017 Sprinter 2500 and it recognized the VIN and the only calibration I had to do was set the level.
I took my van up to a wild life management area where there is a road that runs along a lake shore so it's very level. There is a straight section with 3 lanes making for easy turn arounds. I did 5 runs in each direction, and got 7 consistent readings and 3 outliers. It does seem to be a little sensitive to how much throttle you use. You don't want to smash the pedal to the floor (2 outliers, or accelerate too gently 1 outlier).
I thought the readings of about 7200 lbs were high, because my empty van should have weighed about 5200 lbs. I thought for sure the Better Weigh was going back to Amazon.
On the way back I swung by a Cat Scale. My van weighed 7180
I didn't realize I had 2000 lbs of stuff in my van. Bed frame, refrigerator freezer, wood working bench, two full metal tool boxes, complete set of 18 volt power tools, folding 16 foot aluminum ladder, porta-pottie, two 7 gallon jugs of water, extra seat, folding table, etc well it all adds up.
Now I need to check the tongue weight measurement, if that seems to be accurate it's a keeper.
