Current top picks for towing a 17

Even though Im not in the market for a 21 or perfect tow for same, I enjoyed everyones opinion for towing a 21 .....so thought I'd kick out a similar thread for the 17.

I have a new to me 09 Tacoma 4X4, 4l, V6, auto, Access cab with an ARE canopy. I havent had it in tow long enough to generate any driving / towing numbers yet but so far am happy. Im pleased with the change from my previous towing vehicle, a Cherokee to my Tacoma as the pick up truck format provides more room for my camping gear. Pretty soon I won't buy any more ..... ya right!

We have roughly 250 miles under our belt towing our 17B with a 2012 Chevy Colorado 4 x 4. Consumer Reports rated this year and this year only decent marks for reliability. Towing mileage on rural secondary roads here in Vermont has been 16 mpg or about 1 mpg better than with our Rav 4.

Saw a brand new GMC Crew Cab Canyon in town yesterday .
Very nice looking truck and the owner was extremely pleased with his recent purchase.
I was surprised that the Canyon was not that much smaller than my full size truck.
The really small trucks like Tacoma seem more of a hybrid to me
Not really a truck and not really an SUV

The Canyon / Colorado looks like it would be a great tow vehicle for an Escape 17 or 19 .

Yes, the compacts are getting bigger as are the 1/2 tons gaining weight. The fall brings new Jeep Scrambler and soon Ford's Ranger and Bronco will be reborn. Gotta make room for the replacements.

2016 Ram Ecodiesel.

We drove from Arizona to Alaska this summer via Yosemite NP , Banff and Jasper NP. Many twisty mountain passes.
This truck pulled the 17 like a dream at times even forgetting I was towing.
Crossed over numerous mountain passes effortlessly.
The 6 cylinder 3.0L engine puts out 240 hp and 420 pounds of torque.
The eight speed transmission shifted smoothly providing a wide power band.
Did not worry much about mpg. Overall trip we clocked just over 20mpg!
Probably a little overkill for a 17 but I really liked the power when needed. Also the 17 only make the truck squat 1 inch fully loaded.
This engine and truck were built to tow. What a tractor!

There are a lot of SUVs that can tow a 17. No need for a truck unless that's what you want.

While I had some gripes about the small fuel tank & low ground clearance, my 2010 RAV 4 (V6 & tow package) did a fine job of towing the Escape 17. I do have to admit the move to a 2016 Tacoma Off Road was an improvement, however towing, as well as non towing mileage took a hit.

So far I'm OK with the Tacoma towing my new 21.

Just completed a long maiden trip towing with 2017 V6 AWD Highlander

We are just back from a 7500 mile trip, which took us from Orlando Fl to Chilliwack BC & back.

I would say about 3600 mile towing our new 17B back to Orlando. For a novice like me, I would say it was a easy enough towing experience (Once I got that hooked up)

I vote for the Highlander.
