my spring bars were probably too greasy at the pivots, and if you removed them, they would be a dirt magnet, so I always removed the whole assembly and stowed it next to the trailer hitch.

Civilguy,

We have a similar setup as "Jill". F150 supercrew (short bed), 2.7l, 4x4, with E19. I have towed with an without the torsion bars on the E2 hitch. Even at slower speeds (45-50 mph) the ride is significantly smoother with the bars. We also tow in the west on 2 lane roads at 60-70 mph with trucks on the other oncoming lane. No sway at all. High side gust winds that would induce sway on the interstate (say I-40 in eastern AZ) are no problem.

2 cents

Really easy solution for that. Remove bar, slide into plastic bag, repeat and stow.

Works for me.
