Do weight distribution hitches wear out?

We bought a ProSeries WDH from ETI with our 17A in February 2018. Since then, the trailer has accumulated about 40,000 miles of fun and the WDH is showing some wear:
- The trunnion bars show some galling and peening on the little knobs on the forward ends.
- The sway control friction bar is looking pretty shiny. Looks like the plated abrasive is worn away.
Any advice? Thanks

If it can rub, it can wear.
The hole for the pin in my RAV4 receiver was enlarged over the years.

They look so dry. did you not grease them?
I've had mine for 6 years and I make sure they have a thin layer of grease on them before we head out and they look almost new.

I don't grease because of the dirt. We drive a lot of dusty roads with the trailer, and the grease is a dirt magnet. I do grease the ball, but I wipe out the socket nearly every unhitch. I tried greasing the little balls for the sway control bar, but that attracted so much dirt that I quit. For the sway control, I believe that grease is a no-no,

I would grease them. Clean the grease off every few months and add a little new grease.

As for the wear. I would take and file and or emery cloth and clean up the bars. Then add a little grease. As for the sway bar, if the friction surface looks worn, replace it.

I've driven on a lot of dusty roads myself but like Doug2000 I clean then off and then regrease them. If you're not wanting to use grease it looks like you'll be replacing them every few years.

On my Reese with built in sway I figured I eventually have to adjust the angle at the main weldment to compensate for the wear at the trunnions. Would show up with more sag and less sway resistance. So far not noticeable.
