Escape 19 coupler height

Howdy All
I read in a previous thread that the Escape 19 coupler height is 21". Is this distance between the ground and the bottom of the coupler ?

Distance from ground to top of the coupler, so when hitched, the trailer is level...

Hmmm
So the 21" height on the hitch ball mount is to the top of the 2" ball for the trailer to be level ?

No, I guess it is to the bottom of the trailer hitch coupler which sits on your stinger with the ball inside the coupler, 21" up from the ground. Does this make sense, maybe an adjustable receiver would be good, that is what I use, to allow for any vehicle squat.

The top of "where the ball would seat inside the coupler". Measuring to the top of the receiver would be so close that it is close enough.

Jim, kinda curious as to what you are referring to as a stinger. Is it the same as the draw bar (ball mount). I just have never heard of that term used before. Must be one of those eastern terms.

yes, the removable draw bar is sometimes referred as "stinger" particularly when you bump into it in the middle of the night and you end up with a bruised and greasy leg- you got stung!!

I also have an adjustable "cushioned" mount that has rubber inside to eliminate "clunk" which I find a good lock will also work. Again from Etrailer
Convert-A-Ball Dual-Cushioned, Adjustable Ball Mount - 7" Rise to 9" Drop - 5,000 lbs Convert-A-Ball Ball Mounts CAB-UM
This one I use with my FJ Cruiser

I don't know if Reece still accommodates it but I had my April 2011 delivered at the original 19" height before the previously optional high lift axles became the new standard.

To add a piece of data to this thread: I just talked to Tammy. She said 20" to the top of the ball for a 2013 19' (with standard wheels and axles).

This leaves the problem of how to predict how much the back end of your TV will sag under the weight of your trailer and all that beer in the front box. I WAGd 2" and got a ball mount at 22" off the ground.

Some Escape models have changed suspension height and the amount that the tongue part of the frame is bent up; the combination of the two determines the coupler height. Selecting a different amount of rise in the tongue is a significant change in frame construction, so it might not be practical to pick anything other than the current production specification. I would get the suspension height right for my purposes, see if there is any choice in tongue bend, and then probably just live with whatever ball height results.

Hi: dbailey... The suspension on our 4X4 Frontier is lots. 700# pin weight on the axle makes about 1" deflection. With a straight 19'er you might be in the ball park at 2". You can always add the WDH if needed. Alf
