Escapees SmartWeigh result
Just after leaving the Xscapers Bash in Lake Havasu, AZ, and dry, solar-only camping for 8 days, we stopped by North Ranch, Congress AZ, for an Escapees SmartWeigh. This describes our rig:
Tow Vehicle: 2017 Infiniti QX80 Limited, GVWR = 7400 lbs., GCWR = 14480, GAWR Front = 3616, GAWR Rear = 4343, Towing capacity = 8500, Max tongue weight = 850; Tires Michelin Premier LTX 275/50R22 Load Range SL 2403 @ 35 psi
Trailer: 2019 Escape 19’ (May 2019 delivery), GVWR = 5000, GAWR Front = 3500, GAWR Rear = 3500 (from axle labels), Rainier ST 205/74R15 Load Range “D” 2150; weighed with full potable tank and empty back & gray tanks, two 30 lb. aluminum propane L = ˝, R = full, 2 Lifeline GPL-4CT batteries, 7 gal bottled water plus normal personal items & food; Hitch: Hensley Cub
Our SmartWeigh results are:
Tow vehicle without trailer with two passengers, beagle, personal belongings, tools, etc.:
LF = 1625, RF = 1600, LR = 1600, RR = 1600
Weights with same tow plus trailer:
Tow: LF = 1600, RF = 1650, LR = 1900, RR = 1900
Trailer: LF = 975, RF = 1075, LR = 1075, RR = 1000
Derived tongue weight: 625 with Hensley jacks set to top of three marks
Trailer overall height = 9' 4"
In summary, our tow is 77% GCWR, 85% tow rear axle rating, and has 13% tongue weight, all in the safe range. To stay below 5000, we must watch out for weight creep by minimizing and removing seldom used trailer contents. We always try to travel with empty black and gray tanks.
Hope this provides some useful information for similar Escape 19’ owners. Thanks to George and assistants at North Ranch. Highly recommend every Escape owner periodically get an Escapees SmartWeigh. Knowledge is safety!
