Thanks Donna. Saw this yesterday. Fortunately, mine is not part of the recall.

It has been the most popular North American vehicle for many years now, I believe. Other than one Dodge, and one Toyota, I have owned at least a dozen different F-series trucks. Mind you, mine have been almost exclusively work vehicles.

I knew they were popular, I did not know the volume that they were produced at, 1,000 a day
means a lot of workers who work fast, obviously too fast in this case.

There certainly are a lot of F-150s. Of course, if you total Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 sales (because they are the same truck with different cosmetic details), there are about as many of them, too.

At this production level, 12,300 units doesn't seem like a big glitch, although it is the steering column potentially falling apart. Of those, very few will actually have a fault. Of course, if it were Toyota doing the same recall, the Ford fans would declare it proof that imported stuff is junk and we should all buy genuine Ford quality...

True, but Ford immediately owned up -- unlike Toyota in many recent cases. I don't consider a recall an indication of poor quality (after all, every manufacturer finds defects) but how the recall is initiated tells me alot about the company. In Ford's case, I've been a "fan" ever since they didn't take the government bailout money, while Chrysler and GM did. Maybe it's a Texas prejudice.

Although Ford did not need money from the $80 billion bailout program, Ford did receive $5.9 billion in government loans in 2009 to retool its manufacturing plants to produce more fuel-efficient cars, and the company lobbied for and benefited from the cash-for-clunkers program — contrary to the ad’s testimonial that Ford is “standing on their own.”
