Frontier Short Bed

Has anyone towed the 5.0 with a Nissan Frontier Short Bed? I know the long bed is not a problem, but I have a short bed and realy like the 5.0, and want to avoid having to upgrade my truck.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Frontier Short Bed

Escape recommends that you have 29 inches clearance from the center of the hitch to the cab ......... if you have that then you are good to go. If not have you thought of using a slider hitch. I have a slider in my Ranger (6ft box) and mounted the hitch 6 inches forward of the axle center giving me 30 inches clearance ........ I have yet to use the slider but it's good to know it's there if I need it.

Thanks Barry, I'll check the demensions, doubt I have that much clearance so I'll most likely need to go with the slider hitch if that will work.

Re: Frontier Short Bed

Hi: Scuba55... Just went out to check my hitch/ cab configureation. We have the long bed Crew Cab Frontier and the measurement from the back of the cab to the center of the hitch(Over the axle) is 34". We have about 2 1/2" clearance on a 90* turn. We do have a Husky 16K EZRoller sliding hitch...but have never had to slide it. I believe there is a pin extender avail. to get more room between the pin and hitch. This is where a good hitch installer is worth his metal!!! Alf
escape artist N.S. of Lake Erie p.s. There are 3 sets of bolt holes for adjustment of the pin box. Each gives about 3" more extension of the pin, 1 1/2" drop in hight. On the hitch there are 4 sets of holes for height adjustment. Alf

Mike

This old post from Reace regarding the setup of the 5th wheel hitch might be of interest to you. He's describing installing a hitch into a Tacoma Quad Cab short box using a slider hitch with the hitch just 24" to 25" from the cab. Scroll down it's post #16

Re: Frontier Short Bed

Alf,

Based on the Husky you've described here, I should be able to make the Frontier short bed work. This forum is great!4

Huge Thanks to you and Barry!
