GMC Canyon 5' bed
Anyone towing a 5.0TA with a Canyon or Colorado. We're looking at one with the diesel and a 5' bed.
Will this truck tow the camper and what kind of hitch do you use?
Thanks!
Ron

Hi: TazzyTrailer... If it were me I'd look at the long bed truck. We use the long bed Crew Frontier so the trailer clears the cab. Alf

Long bed Canyon with Duramax is the way I would go.

I agree - the shorter Canyon is really short for a 5.0TA. The hitch would need to end up well behind the axle, and I wouldn't want several hundred pounds of pin weight that far back.

Thanks for your reply! Everyone so far is in agreement that the short box will cause problems! Thanks to everyone for their time! Happy New Year!

Hey there.
I too wanted a 5' bed Colorado at first only for looks and garage parking length. After sizing up the hitch mount it only makes sense to get the 6'. I purchased the Colorado Duramax in Sept and already have the hitch installed giving good clearance from cab and room to lower the tailgate. A 5' bed will mean mounting hitch behind axle.

See my picture folder for our install of a hitch on a short bed Canyon Duramax. As I remember it mounts about 4 inches behind the axle with not much option for another location. Only have a classic 5.0...not the roomy 5.0TA alas...

We're towing our 21 with a short box Canyon, a task it handles easily, so I'm confident the truck can handle a 5.0TA, although you are likely to be maxing out the payload capacity of the truck. I do concur with the others who are recommending the long box version.

Andersen Ultimate Gooseneck in a Canyon?
I really like the idea of the Andersen Ultimate gooseneck mount hitch with a B&W turnover ball, to allow full access to the bed when I am not towing. I had pretty much decided to install this combination for my GMC 2500 HD.
But I have a lot of miles on this truck, and see many advantages to a diesel long bed Canyon.
Has anyone investigated this hitch combination for a Canyon or Colorado?

I have a '15 Canyon short bed. Trademasters is installing a slide hitch for it's backing/cornering advantage. Payload is 1650# so no problem with that. Mine is the gas powered and I'll try that for a while to see if a move to the diesel is necessary. Problem is those are darn hard to find and spendy in the SLT we want.
