I have a B&W turnover hitch in my Silverado 2500 hd. I bought aa 5th wheel comanion from B&W that uses the ball mount to hold the hitch in the truck. I love the hitch, no noise from movement of the pin in hitch. I bought it used locally. I contacted B&W about replacing the shock absorber, did not mind buying it. They sent it to me no charge . The truck has a 6.5' bed and there no clearance problems.

I use a shop crane to lift my hitch in and out, I can lift it on my own, but the rubber bands in my back are not what they use to be.

Frank, I am not sure what setup you wish to go with. Did you want to do a gooseneck mount, or a rail mount?

With the gooseneck mount you have less options for a hitch to connect with the king pin on the 5.0, but you have the benefit of removing it and having a smooth bed.

With the rail mount, you have way more options for hitches, but even with removal, the rails stay on the bottom of the bed. Rails cost about $500 less than a gooseneck hitch.

The Andersen Ultimate comes in two models, one for each type connection. If you Google the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection, you will get lots of videos.

I have looked at that hitch too. It certainly looks good, but is quite heavy at 75 lbs for the coupler, and 131 lbs for the base. I can easily lift that now, but in 15-20 years, it might be a challenge.

Jim,
When you get to that point the hitch in the truck bed will not be in you way. As you will not be doing as much. Like i said earler I use a shop crane to lift mine out and in, takes a little longer but I walk more upright after doing it that way.

This is true. In not too far into the future, I might just be able to leave it in there.

This is the goose neck option with hitch attached to it. The bed is completely flat when hitch is removed.

I'll try and check this out tomorrow some more. I still don't get it, but just got home from an evening meeting and am tired. In general, less money with more choices is better.

Thanks all. More tomorrow!

One consideration to make, is payload weight. If one is getting close with the combined pin weight, occupants and cargo, to save 150 lbs of cargo weight, the Anderson Ultimate could be a prime consideration.

Jim, do you mean this one:

https://www.etrailer.com/Gooseneck-a...FYuRHwodXWkHKA

Then I would still need the hitch mounted under the bed with a ball in the bed?

Links would be real helpful here folks, but I have plenty of time before we get a 5.0TA, and maybe by then a different truck...

Thanks!

I also have the B&W Patriot, not as big as the Companion. Solid connection, easy to use.
RV 5th Fifth Wheel Hitch | B & W Trailer Hitches

Here's the link to the installation of the rails, you'd need to figure out how much distance you have between the hitch center and the cab to see your turning ability. It says to use the same tailgate to hitch center measurement for all 3 F150 bed lengths. It uses a set of existing holes in the frame so to use their vehicle specific brackets you have to use their measurements.
http://www.turnoverball.com/sites/de...01_21_2011.pdf

I don't have a garage so I have to gorilla the hitch around when I need to truck bed. At 150lbs total, I have to do so by pulling it apart, the head is 50 and the base is 100. I agree with Jim, it's not something I want to be doing when I get older, or even now for that matter.

I have an 8' bed so pictures would do you no good. I have my doubts as to it's suitability for the short bed but it does work great.

The brackets and rails add another 50 or so lbs, so use 200 lbs as the hitch weight when figuring if your truck has the payload capacity.

Just took another look, I do NOT see the 2015 and up F150's listed on the application page, you'd have to call and ask.

Frank, that is the one with the gooseneck adapter, and does require adding a gooseneck mount under your bed, if you don't already have one.

In post #3 on this thread I did provide this link to Andersen's page with their 5th wheel hitches, which shows how they work.
https://www.andersenhitches.com/Cata...onnection.aspx

The rail mount version is cheaper, and a bit easier to install. You are just left with the rails in the bed all the time.

So this one, right? B&W Patriot 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch - On Sale Now!

My bed is 6.5 feet, only 1.5 feet away from 8. I have an engine hoist that rolls, so lifting stuff out of the truck is not a problem, even at my age and numerous physical limitations!

Thanks Jim, I'm starting to get a handle on this stuff. Your help is much appreciated!

Another vote for the B&W Patriot. We have a 6.5 bed and have not had any problems coming close to hitting the cab, even turns with steep inclines/declines. Search on the 5th wheel threads over in the Open Roads forum, many threads discussing the Anderson and the Patriot. Both fine hitches.

There are a bunch of B&W Patriot model numbers. Any idea which one you have?

Thanks!

The Patriot does get great reviews, and a local hitch shop recommends them, but at 174 lbs more than the Andersen, it is quite a weight penalty. This is for the gooseneck model. The rail model is 50 lbs lighter.

Either way, I am almost certainly going with the B&W TurnOverBall.
