Hitching 5.0 Slanted Driveway

Hi - we have ordered a 5.0 but now realize it may not work to hook up and unhook on our driveway. Our driveway slants away from the sidewalk so the truck will be on an angle to the trailer when it's ready to unhook. We've done okay with pull trailers but have never used a 5th wheel hitch. Any ideas whether we'll be able to make this work?

I fail to see why it would matter. Chock the wheels in the same way you would a bumper pull. If you are using a true 5th wheel hitch, lower the front end of the trailer a bit, but keep in mind 5th wheel hitches are designed to operate at varying angles so it shouldn’t be a problem. If you are still concerned, then go with the Andersen ultimate hitch, which uses a ball and a coupler, but requires safety chains.

You will love the 5.0TA!

Depending on how much of an angle you are talking, the only thing I ran into was not being able to leave the tailgate open. Deb would have to either slower lower or raise it as I pulled away or backed in.

Hi: KarenW... Our drive slopes away from the trailer. When we hitch/unhitch my wife has to raise and lower the trailer to get it on/off the truck. When the trailer is level on the drive I can walk under the nose. It's really no problem. Alf

A photo of your driveway would help.

We have a 2014 5.0 TA and have had it up and down many angled roads. We don't use the truck tail gate but instead have a pass-thru 5th wheel gate.

We use a regular 5th wheel hitch and it works fine for us. We tow with a full size Silverado.

Escape Artist = That is a beautiful spot to park your trailer in your driveway!! I am so envious; I cannot do it in mine because I have a considerable slope to the roadway. If I had your setup I might be looking to get myself into the doghouse more often.... ; )

Thanks for the various input. I guess we'll just have to try and see if it works. I looked at it again today and i think if we can get the front and back wheels of the truck on the driveway and off the road it will be take out some of the angle at the hitch point. We will level the trailer once it's off the truck. Our plan is to use the Andersen Ultimate as suggested.
