Honda Ridgeline AWD towing escape 19

I have a 2017 AWD Ridgeline. Will it tow properly an escape 19 with AC and other option?

We have a 2014 Honda Pilot and the tow rating is 4500 lbs.

I used it once to pull my little 12 foot yard trailer and some mulch. Probably 2500 lbs max. You knew it was behind you immediately.

Not sure if the Ridgeline would be much different.

Our 2011 Pilot and now our 2019 Pilot have easily towed our 2015 19' and our latest 2018 19'. Mileage suffers of course. Nothing else I would rather use for a tow vehicle.

ksitte,
Looking at your time line, 4 years, then 3 years, between new Escapes, it has been 2 years, time to go for #4, it is lonely here........

Definitively mused about it but finally decided we really like what we have now, especially after "experimenting" with the 17 and prior 1st gen 19. So much now dependent on COVID too -- health and safety, etc.

@ksitte On the 2019 Pilot...have you used a WD system with the 19? I have a 2018 Pilot AWD, and am considering the 2021 19 and don't know if I'll need a WD system. Thanks!

When we purchased our first 19' in 2015, towed with our 2011 Pilot, we moved to an Andersen WDH [https://smile.amazon.com/3385-Anders...108747&sr=8-1] hitch and kept it with our latest 2018 Escape 19. Just replaced the braking cone on the Andersen for the first time this year. We like the combination of stability and simplicity. Easy to use with our 2019 Honda Pilot.

I have a 2019 Ridgeline that I use to tow my Escape 19 all the time. Works great. I even stopped using my anti sway/load distribution hitch.

Markbke, Just wanted to add that I use a 2011 AWD Honda Pilot (tow capacity: 4500 pounds) to pull our 2019 E19 with AC, freshwater tank filled, and ALWAYS a case of wine or so in the storage area under the dining area seat. I have an E2 Fastway anti-sway weight distribution hitch for towing. We have had no problems with towing, and we just got back from climbing up US14 from Dayton, WY, and US 16 east of Tensleep, WY. If it can do that, it is doing fine. Now, my wife keeps campaigning for a more powerful SUV, with maybe a tow capacity of 7000 pounds or so, because she doesn't like to hear it shift into lower gear going up really steep pitches on highways. We shall see what the future brings. But the 2011 Pilot, (like ksitte's) does a fine job.

Best remedy to get rid of high revs is a vehicle that has a turbocharger. Maybe a Ford Explorer is in your future.

Markbke . . . You've had a number of good answers. I am a newbie to all of this and have had the same questions, since I am also considering a 19' Escape trailer. The only specific info I can add, is that I just returned from a 4,000 mile trip with a 2018 Ridgeline, towing a 17' Casita that probably weighs around 700 lbs less, loaded than the Escape. Our trip was from the flatlands of the midwest, to northern California, over the Rockies, Sierra's and the Coastal ranges of California. It was a lot of up and down.

The Ridgeline was truly excellent. My wife and I are both relatively slow drivers (60 - 70mph) and are both new to towing. The Ridgeline handled everything well. We felt safe and in control. As a bonus, the truck got around 19mpg for the entire trip. That's the display calculated mileage, so it's probably off by 8-10% in the real world, but regardless of the actual mileage, I feel that's pretty good.

Because I am so new to this, I'm a little reticent to offer opinions, but my gut tells me that the additional weight of the 19' Escape, would NOT be a problem.
