In the bed trailer plug

Anyone using an in the truck bed trailer plug with their 5.0 TA? Is is necessary, or significantly better that plugging in at the back of the tow vehicle? My tow vehicle is a Toyota Tacoma. Sorry if this gas been answered before. Thanks

I've been wondering about that too since seeing someone mention using the bumper plug in another post. I thought it was pretty much required to have a bed-mounted plug for a fifth wheel hookup, would certainly like to hear if others are successfully using the bumper plug.

Fifth-wheel trailers normally come with a very long electrical cable, just so that it can reach a bumper-mounted receptacle... because many people do use that.

I like the bed plug, stops the cable from rubbing on the tailgate.

That is why I installed a plug in my truck bed, but it isn't necessary.

I've towed Ten Forward since July 3, 2014. I don't have an in-the-bed plug and don't have any rubbing on the tailgate. The tow package in my F-150 tells me immediately when the umbilical is plugged in and also immediately when it's disconnected. I don't need to physically see it to know it's happened. What I do have, is stuff typically inside the bed, at the back along and along the side walls. I worry the in-the-bed plug and umbilical will tangle or restrict that portion of the bed usage. Until I see a valid reason to change, I'm happy with the standard location which is at the bumper. YMMV

I use one in the bad too, for me it's easier to connect t and disconnect. but you certainly do not have to have one, I added mine after I got the trailer. Also shortened the emergency brake disconnect cable and added a coiled length to it off Amazon.

Not necessary but really convenient. I think the plug stays a lot cleaner also, no sand and grit build up. You still have your original connection so you loose nothing. 😎

my horse trainer always uses the one on tail/gate but i always use the one in the bed. you can do either.
