That sticker is for an amazing truck!! Exterior color, interior color and all included. WOW!!! I don't understand why Ford's web page won't let people build it. But there is still the dealer. Thank you for sharing!!

I see what you mean: if I pick a SuperCrew and 6.5' box the default engine is the EcoBoost 2.7, but as soon as I change the default 4x2 to 4x4 a change of engine to the 5.0 is enforced. I thought it might be the trim level, but the same thing happens at every level I checked (XL, XLT, Lariat).

Then I realized the problem: I was picking the 6.5' box. The truck shown in that window sticker has a wheelbase of 145", which implies a 5.5' box length for a SuperCrew (full 4-door cab). I tried with the 5.5' box and had no problem getting the same truck (right down to the colour and accessories) shown on the sticker.

By the way, that might be a nice truck, but it isn't suited for towing like Robert's: it has the towing package, but is missing the payload package and integrated trailer brake controller. I suppose the buyer wasn't planning to tow much, or the dealership ordered it to have all the cool features and not run the cost up with working bits underneath.

We have the 6250 payload package but we had to add the integrated brake controller. Apparently it's only included in the max tow package bundle. I hate the way the manufacturers do options. Would be better if it was just a list of options. I know why they do it - to bundle common configurations and save build time, but it does make it hard to configure online. A dealer can come in handy because they can select individual options without a package.

We're in Roswell NM tonight. The weather is just beautiful and the truck is more than I expected. We averaged 24.7 mpg between San Antonio and here and the mileage is actually still ticking up.

That's the lower of the two payload packages for the 145" SuperCrew (6250 lb GVWR 4x2 / 6500 lb GVWR 4x4; 1640 lb payload). The "2.7L EcoBoost® V6 Payload Package" increases GVWR by 400 lb and payload by 420 lb (apparently the higher-capacity hardware weighs 80 pounds more); I didn't realize that you don't have that, but it shouldn't be needed for an Escape 21' (but I would get it for a 5.0TA).

It's official - Tow is On The Way

And even less needed for a 19 (ours).

There was a method to my madness. Weight and payload were not really a concern with the 19, but fuel economy definitely was.

Just noticed this going back to the beginning of this thread:

As it turns out, they are literally impossible to find because Ford doesn't offer that combination - select the SuperCrew with 6.5' box and the V8 is selected for you.

Can I claim that I meant "for an Escape up to the 21'"? No, I just forgot the size of Robert's Escape.

Good point - the high payload packages usually mean more truck weight, and more significantly to fuel economy they also typically have lower gearing, which hurts fuel economy when not heavily loaded. In this case, I think the F-150 with 2.7L EcoBoost and 2WD goes from 3.31:1 to 3.73:1 with the maximum payload package.

3.55 is base equipment for the 4x4, while the 4x2 gets 3.31. Both change to 3.73:1 with the maximum payload package.

Traffic coming home on I-35 and 1604 was absolutely horrific with nothing but stop-and-go almost the entire way. I didn't even care! With the auto-stop/auto-start feature engaged, I'll bet the engine shut off over 500 times on the way home. I averaged 24 mpg or so on the stretches where I could do 65, and a little less in the stop and go traffic.

I'm going to need a month just to figure out what everything does. So many bells and whistles. Anyway, thanks again ya'll. Off to Canada on Sunday. Cheers.
So glad you love the F-150, Robert! It is a sweet ride. Happy and safe travels to pick up your other new baby

Robert, did you manage to get a paper plate for your new trailer, or for that matter did you even have time to get the regular plates for your new truck? Loren

Hello from Colorado. We finished our 2nd day in the new truck and the mileage is still going up. Averaging 25 right now. On to Utah tomorrow, Oregon the next day and finally to Chilliwack on Thursday night.

And yes Loren, we got a 30 day temporary tag for the trailer online. The good thing about them is that Texas lets you determine the start date. Ours starts the day we pick up the trailer. The bad thing was that we couldn't get plates without the trailer because Texas requires a VIN inspection for any imported vehicle .....but that's another story.

Cheers,

Robert

Robert,
For those of us who like to hear about mpg, would you tell us if your results are ''hand calculated' versus the computer approximation, and secondly what speeds you're running.
Thanks.

Robert, is there any way to apply for more than 30 days for a temp plate? We plan to be on the road for 45-60 days after we pick it up.

Robert, when you get into Oregon your fuel mileage may drop. We're still running 10% ethenol at our gas stations until April 1. I know it really effects my fuel mileage (Nov 1-Mar 31). Fuel stations can't change (when buying fuel for the tanks) until April 1. Sometimes it takes until June(!) to notice a difference.. depending on how often the gas station buys fuel. Sigh.
