Or is it a bad idea since you would then be relying on two hitch pins instead of one?
The premium version says it has an 'anti-wobble bolt'. I'd take that with a grain of salt. Might be good for a bike rack, to keep bikes away from the back window, and similar uses. For trailer hitches, as far as I can see a longer shank ('stinger') would be more solid.

Stay away.................I have seen some posts on various RV /trailering boards where these type items simply tore in half. For a bike rack - sure - for a trailer - NO WAY.
Also, from the specs listed (my emphasis added)
Has weight capacity that is the lowest of the following
50% of the hitch's overall weight capacity
Load rating GTW 3,500 lbs; Tongue 350 lbs
Load rating with weight distribution equipment GTW 7000 lbs; Tongue 700 lbs
its a CURT 45260, about 14" long (12-1/4" from the center of the ball shank to the pin that holds the mount to your receiver).
rated for a 7500 lb trailer so no problem on our < 5000 lb Escapes.
Believe OP was looking for a WDH setup, so something like what CharlesinGa posted (see post #11 on P#1) would be the ticket if he wants to go with a longer shank.
