But.. cannot find an age code. Here's the DOT info: all letters. No numbers. I figure they have to be 6 years old and more like originals (9 years) so will get new ones anyway. Warranted for six years.

Age code is probably on the other side of the tire. I had to crawl under to read mine.

That sidewall shows:
Quote:
DOT 2VUL MRHR
Unfortunately, that's only the manufacturer (2V), size (UL), and factory (MRHR) portions of the DOT code. It is common for tire manufacturers to mould this into both sidewalls (since it doesn't change) but mould the date code into only one sidewall (to reduce the amount that they have to change every week). The date portion (four more digits on the end) is probably only on the other side of the tire... often mounted facing inward, so you have to crawl under the trailer like baglo to see it, and even then you may have to rotate the tire or take it off of the trailer to find the code.

Since it's not 1960 anymore, I wouldn't use bias ply tires.

The brakes are 10"x2¼", as normal for Dexter Torflex #10 and D35 axles.

Thanks! I tried crawling under to find the code once and still couldn't find it, but now that it has been at least six years since the tires were new, I'm just going to get them. Tread looks fine but sides don't look so good.

Yes, 10” brakes but I’m curious as to why a tire place would care if they are not also replacing the rims?

It was in regard to doing the brakes if needed as they'd need to order parts. I think I may run up there tomorrow and have them check, though-

Hi: Bobbie54... Mfg's date code is usually a 4 digit # in a small raised area of the sidewall. First 2 #'s are the week... 2nd. 2 #'s are the year. It's usually put on the inside just to make it difficult for you to find!!! Alf

It’s in a little oval shape about 3/4 to an inch long and usually “sets off by itself”.

Since they are at least six years old and possibly 9 I'm replacing them regardless of what that date says, dropped the trailer off at LS half an hour ago. Nice social distancing there! No more popcorn or coffee () and they put three waiting tables in the large display area so you could sit without being near anyone else, and plexi guards for the employees, plus he wore a mask. (So did I.) And hand cleaner by the credit card machine.

Well, LS says the brakes are fine, will adjust them, and the spare is 10 years old so recommend also replacing it.

It is unlikely that the spare will be needed. If it is, it unlikely that even a 20-year-old tire would fail just due to age in the day it takes to get to a tire store and get new replacement. Without any actual issue with the spare tire identified on inspection, I wouldn't spend the money on replacing it, but then I don't have extra money to throw away on things that are never used. Your call...

Already did. I've used the spare on a couple of trailers (boat, luckily so far not on a trailer) and one of those times finding a suitable tire was not easy. This size would likely be to be easier to find, though. You're probably right but if I need to change the tire I don't want the spare to turn out to be no good.

Consider putting the spare in rotation at the first of every camping season. My thought is I’d rather get some good out of it than let it age out. That’s what I’m doing on the 21 with all five tires in a rotation.

Hi: Bobbie54... The only spare that concerns me is the one around my middle. It's been there a lot longer than 10 yrs too. I haven't used a spare since the early 70's. To me they're something lurking around the waist or back bumper!!!

Even just rotating at each brake & bearing inspection would be effective (depending on inspection interval and tire service life), and would take almost no additional effort compared to just doing the inspection.
