New tow vehicle hitch height

Our tow vehicle (Mercedes Metris van) is being sold today and replaced with a 2022 Toyota Highlander. There is a height increase is a whopping 5 inches from the ground to the hitch receiver!

Any recommendations on what we need to do to make sure our setup with our Escape trailer still tows safely? How do we adjust to make the trailer as flat as possible? We have the E2 weight distribution hitch on the Escape 19.

Thanks in advance!

That’s the beauty of the E2 hitch- a very adjustable ball height. You can set the ball height to what it was on your previous tug then follow through on the process of setting up the weight distribution accordingly. Good luck.

On both the e-2 and the Anderson the hitch “stinger”
Consists of the part that goes into the receiver, the “tower” and the horizontal rub with the 2” ball that goes into the coupler. If the tower leaves the ball too high or too low to allow to tow the trailer level, you can “turn the tower over, for more height options. I needed one more “hole” for the 2018 Highlander hitch height than we had for for the 2012 Highlander. Flipped the tower ala AZJack and all was good.
Hope this helps

Drop shank likely not needed

I was told by ETI that a drop shank was not need if the bottom of the receiver box was 20" or below. ( I do have have the 2 5/8ths lift and the bottom of my receiver is 19 1/2")

Depends how much bottom range you have left on the shank.

IMO - Appears from your pics you need to lower your hitch head on the shank by about 5"

The 2 big bolts on the right of the pic below should do the trick:

Unhitch trailer. Loosen / remove the bolts then slide the hitch head down on the shank about 5". Careful - heavy.

Don't attempt if you are not comfortable / knowledgeable regarding such.

Hitch head may need angle (washer) adjustment afterwards as well
