Poll of 5.0 Owners (only, please) - is your tug 2WD or 4WD/AWD?
Please limit poll response to your actual experience towing your Escape 5.0 only (not past or current experience with any bumper pull, not speculative plans or preference).
Just curious about the actual numbers, prompted by several threads asking opinion.
Thanks for participating and Thanks for not including bumper-pull experience!
Yes, there's a number of factors that might drive actual owner choices (e.g. regional things like living or camping in 'snow country'; preference for off-road sites; whether the 2WD has / had limited-slip / 'locking' differential, etc, etc) but a poll needs to be simple and to the point. Please feel free to add a post about such and opinions, etc ...

10 ft. pole?
Hi: 5.0TA owners. We have owned 2 Escapes. 1st. a 5.0 towed with a 2wh. drive GMC. and a 4X4 Nissan Fronty. 2nd. a 5.0TA towed with the Fronty and now a 4X4 Ram EcoDiesel. Alf p.s. When shopping for a new tug it's always easier to find a 4X4 pickup!!!

2019 Ram 1500 5.7 2WD with our 5.0TA. Previously pulled a slightly longer fifth wheel for 15 years with a 1998 Ram 1500 2WD.
2WD has always worked fine for us, we don't do serious offroad backcountry camping but have done plenty of dirt/gravel roads with no problems. Living in Texas, snow is not an issue so I don't need 4WD for that. As others have pointed out, with a 5.0TA hitched up there is plenty of weight on the back wheels for traction.

2wd first when bought Alf's 5.0, as found truck at good price, then bought 4wd for the 5.0, then 5.0TA. 2wd was used mostly for towing, the 4wd is now our only vehicle so happy with that living in snow country. As Alf said it's hard to find 2wd here.

Since ya'll now tow a 5.0, please participate in the poll so your numbers count
Folks, posting about your tug doesn't enter your data in the poll, ya gotta do that by picking one of the four choices above, I can't do it for you, so please do that, thanks!

2012 Toyota Tundra, 4.6 l engine double cab, 4x4, Anderson Ultimate rail mount hitch, Toyota towing mirrors. Probably going to go for a newer Toyota Tundra in spring same set up hopefully a 2018. It pulls very well and has little trouble even in mountainous VT. Very stable even in strong cross winds. It is a great set up. This truck is a daily driver and I live in ski country so a 4x4 is pretty much required.

Just picked up a 2019 5.0 in November, so not a lot of info towing it yet.
Have a 2018 Silverado 4WD with a 6.2, max trailering package. 38,000 miles, about 1/3 miles are pulling a 20' gooseneck cattle trailer with various loads. Computer shows overall mileage at 17.8mpg. Guessing I'll get 15mpg with the 5.0 if I can keep the speed down.
Difficult to find a 2 wheel drive around here, also anything without a crew cab!
Thanks, Luke

My 5.0TA has been dragged around by 3 different F-150s, all 2-wheel drive. I have little desire to go off-road and even less to travel through snow. Any situation in which 4-wheel drive might have been useful were easily handled by electronically locking differential. The first was a 2012 3.5 L EcoBoost, replaced in 2015 with a 2.7 L with the thought that the lighter aluminum body and smaller engine would increase towing mileage, and I wanted a white truck. And wow, I gained 1/10 of a mile more (from an average of 13.9 mph to 14 mpg), but 5 more mpg when disconnected. The 2015 was replaced after it was fatally wounded by the EMP from a nearby lightning strike which jumped to the telephone line which ran parallel to the truck, 10 feet away. After 4 months of in-and-out of the shop, I ordered a new 2020, going back to the 3.5 L because I prefer the added power, and the transmission temperature climbed higher and faster on long uphills with the 2.7 L than with my first 3.5 L. However, given my age and how much longer I anticipate RVing, had it not been for the lightning strike, I expected the 2015 would be my last truck. But the 2020 has Ford Sync 3, a huge improvement over earlier versions and a 10 speed transmission. I like it better than the previous two.

When I answered the poll I was the sixth person to do so and there were five following comments so assumed perhaps incorrectly that people were answering the poll then making a comment. So I did.

Some people both answered the poll and added additional helpful information in a post, some only answered the poll, and some only posted comments without answering the poll.

In any case, it is what it is, I'll stop 'nagging' about the poll, no worries
