Primus IQ brake controller in a Tacoma

I'm picking up my 17B in a few weeks and getting everything ready! I should have done the research before I ordered but didn't. As retired person I seem to forget to do things because I'm not as busy as before and feel like I have a lot of time!
Anyway, anyone use the Primus IQ brake controller sold by Escape in a Tacoma? I have a 2006, 6cyl., 4wd, with tow package. I've used other brands of brake controllers and just plugged it in a module on the left side, under the dash. I'm hoping the Primus IQ will do the same. It would sure save me time and money.

thanks,
Eric

Re: Primus IQ brake controller in a Tacoma

I have an 09 Tacoma and the same brake controller. Reace mounted it under the dash and if I remember correctly I just plugged it in.

I have the same truck - exactly - as you. Good vehicle! Before you go with the Primus, I suggest you read the comparative review here: http://www.etrailer.com/question-13492.html

Where I had my controller mounted is a perfectly out-of-the-way spot. It's the small tray at the bottom of the dash near the ignition key. I worked with the trailer shop and did the cutting/sanding on the front and back of the pop-out pocket myself. It just snaps out and back into place, requires a good amount of pressure to get it off. I'd suggest removing it before you go to the shop for controller installation, then shape and reinstall at your leisure.

I tried three times using Shrinkpictures.com to attach a photo, going smaller each time and repeatedly got a message, "The uploader is full." Bummer.

Ha! I beat the system! The controller photo is now in the Gallery. Go there, click on User Albums and scroll to the bottom. Woo - too much time on my hands today; it's snowing outside.

Okay! Thanks, guys. Now I can worry about something else. I have used that little tray before but looks like Bruce made it semi-permanent, a good idea. I've already ordered the Primus so I'll have to do better job on checking reviews next time. The snow has stopped in Portland but it's still nasty out there. Thanks! Eric
