Primus vs P3 brake controller and questions

My Primus works okay but two things- on the Forester more than on the truck, the coming to a complete stop seems to kind of pulse the brakes. (Have only noticed once with the truck.)

On the Forester, when nothing was connected it just had a red dot or something, a C if connected. On the truck I get braking numbers when I start up rather than an indication nothing is connected. (Acts normally when the trailer is connected.) Both are plug and play connections to the Primus though not the same cable.

Then the general question (unless related to either of the above)- what's the advantage of the P3 over the Primus? Other than the former being digital and allowing for 3 axles vs only 2 (which is plenty)? I can get a good deal on the P3 now if there is an advantage to switching it out.
