Pulling 17B with 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk ?

I have a 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk rated to tow 4500 lbs. It has various 4WD settings. It has the optional Tow package.

I'm looking at buying a new or used 17B Escape.

Anyone towing with a similar Trailhawk with experience / advice to offer ?

Thank you.

We towed our 2015 Escape 19 for a few years with a 2014 Cherokee Limited with tow package. You'll need the V-6, which is probably standard on the Trailhawk. Loaded weight of trailer was 3200-3300 lbs. Never had problems on the hills, including a trip from central Washington to the east coast and back. 9-speed transmission made the difference. Typically averaged 17 mpg.

Mind if I ask you a couple of follow up questions ? Have any recommendations for a brake controller to control the trailers electric brakes ? Also, best option to eliminate or reduce trailer swaying from side to side ? Thank you for your response.

Tekonsha is most often recommended. We used a Curt proportional because it mounted in the "pocket door" on the dash (left it open while towing for easy access). It did the job. Now using Redarc in our 2020 Grand Chrokee. For weight distribution/sway, we got an Andersen back when Escape recommended them (they no longer do). We like it, and many use it and like it. YMMV

I like the Prodigy P3 much better than the cheaper time-delay type controller I used previously.

Yes, time-delay controllers are pretty much obsolete these days, although they are still available.
