Silence your 5th Wheel Hitch

I have always been annoyed at the clanking and banging of my anderson rail mount 5th wheel hitch. There is just enough play, where the hitch pins into the rails, that it creates this clanking. Curt hitches sells a silencer kit http://www.curtmfg.com/part/16900. I tried the silencers but they were to thick, when mounting the hitch to the rails the pins would not go in. So I continued using the hitch and enduring the noise. One day I was sitting in the garage and looked up at an inner tube hanging on my mountain bike. I light went off. I cut 4 pieces of inner tube to the same shape as the Curt silencers. Installed the hitch, pins went in fine. When we towed, success no more clanking or banging. The towing experience improved dramatically.

I'm surprised to hear you get a clanking. My B&W sat on the bars and was pined in the same way, never heard a sound from it. Maybe the extra 100 lbs had something to do with it but I don't see how.

Some must do, some must don't, as I have the rail mount Andersen Ultimate and do not have any clanking.

ps. But I was to the ear doctor last week, he said my hearing aids were not working, that was news to me.

Our 2015 F150 with rails clanked horribly. We added the Curt pads and the clanking was gone. We kept our Andersen hitch when we purchased our 2019 F150 and had to take two pads off for the hitch to fit, yet it's still quiet. It depends on how the slots for the pin in the rail are cut. If cut too close to the top of the rail it clanks. Easy fix though.

Enjoy,

Perry
