Google this as
Extra length 1/4 inch hex socket 3/8 drive
Looks like Lowe’s, Home Depot, Irwin tools makes them as well as Craftsman and Proto from my cursory investigation.

Wish I could help you because I have several and they do exist. Don't know abut US sources but they were purchased from our equivalent of Harbor Freight.

The term for the one on the left is "deep socket".

Harbor freight, any automotive store, an ace hardware store, Lowe’s or Home Depot carry them. At least here in Texas

How often to torque Andersen coupler set screws?

The problem I have is this shaft is too short. I can bring the screws up to 38 lbs of torque but then this socket cams out inside the red Anderson offset. I need to get it to 40 lbs.

So I need a longer 1/4" hex socket. Anyone know where I can purchase one? I am having a little difficulty finding one.
How often should I torque the Andersen coupler block set screws (four of them)? Their manual says each time I connect my tow vehicle to my trailer, but in my case that will be every couple of days as I unhitch and hitch up...?

We have an extra long hex bit, but when I torqued it to 40 ft-lbs, the long bit made me nervous as to how much it was twisting as I torqued. I was able to easily torque to 25 ft-lbs then 35 ft-lbs, but 40 ft-lbs twisted the bit a lot, and I needed to use extra force to pull torque wrench. Should it be that difficult to torque the coupler's block screws?

Also, what ft-lbs would you recommend to tighten the nuts on the two kingpin bolts? I have the 15/16 socket for the torque wrench, but not sure what to torque to. Thanks!

I think those two bolts gets torqued to 60#. I am not sure! We need someone to verify or correct that.

I was and still am worried about the twist the longer shaft introduces too. I can't adjust mine again, past 38 lbs until I get the new socket. But mine do seem to stay at 38 lbs so far. I doubt everyone tightens them up that often.

I check my tire lugs every couple of trips.

The current installation manual (from the Andersen Ultimate Fifth-Wheel Connection support page) says only "snug"... meaning not tightened nearly as much as you would expect for the bolt diameter.

Technical note:
These bolts are only used in shear (keeping the coupler block from pulling down off of the king pin) so they don't need the installation torque of a tension application - they just need to be snug enough that the nut doesn't loosen and fall off. Logically they should have self-locking nuts or thread adhesive to keep them from loosening despite low torque. I would probably use thread adhesive instead of whatever "lock washers" they might include.

60 lb-ft is likely way too tight; even 38 lb-ft would be more than "snug". The installation manual warns:
Quote:
Do not over tighten the bolts or it could result in cracking the red funnel.
Even in older versions of the coupler block without the funnel, not much torque is needed, although higher torque would be harmless.

Okay, let's give these a try!

They seem sturdy.

Thanks Dave.

This was bugging me so I found the installation guide. I am going to copy an image and post it and reference the guide (.pdf).

The bottom line according to the manual is the top bolt gets torqued to 60 lbs and the two side bolts are torqued to 40 lbs.
