Towing a 19 with a Honda Pilot
On Memorial Day My wife and two kids, who had driven from NY, picked up 19. Escape was awesome. They put a stabilizer hitch on our Honda and we took our time crossing the continent pulling our 19 home while learning about it. We stopped in Yellowstone and the Badlands, before driving straight home to Honeoye Falls, NY.
Our Pilot. 2016 with the 6 speed transmission. Honda transmission cooler and Tekonsha brake control. We had them put on the expensive anti-sway stabilizer leveler. I can't find the order right now, but it is awesome. Anyway, I normally get about 23 MPG on average withe the Pilot on the highway. She felt a bit anemic pulling the 19, but handled well and got us home without incident. Our plan is to get a pickup when the kids are gone, but right now we need the space of the Pilot.
I have since done two trips with it around NYS. Once up to Cranberry Lake in the eastern Adirondacks and on trip to Sampson State Park. Both were darn hilly. I would say if you were in a relaxed, retirement mode, the Pilot was totally adequate. When we went to the ADKs, we were with another couple who had a stick built camper and they were towing with a V8 pickup and they were comfortable going faster than us. So there you go. I hope this is helpful to somebody wondering.
Take Care,
Steve
