I will try to go view one around Winnipeg, it might clarify some things. We are worried about downsizing with two kids, but I will post another thread about that.
My son was very disappointed this summer when he thought I could tow his boat behind my trailer, as he cannot as he has a regular travel trailer.

I just PM'd and got a response from a member on this forum with a 5.0TA in Wpg, she will PM you to arrange to see theirs.

500 pounds of vertical load on Escape's rear bumper would certainly be bad... but why would anyone with a 2700 pound boat & trailer have 500 pounds of tongue weight? Half that would be reasonable.

I don't think the boat trailer behind the Escape is a good idea, but I also don't think 500 pounds is realistic.

Not sure where 500lbs came from. My boat trailer might be slightly over 150, but I can lift it without crazy effort, unless I'm stronger than I think... I should put it on my bathroom scale.

I just threw that number out, I thought boats weighed more than trailers, particularly big ones. Since it is your boat, what is the correct tongue weight that should be known.

Re-positioning the bow stop on a boat trailer (thus relocating the boat further forward or aft on the trailer) can greatly affect the trailer's tongue weight, especially on a single axle trailer. But as others have already mentioned, other forces may also apply.

A bit of clarification - when we first started working on our 2017 21' build sheet in May 2016, the center-mounted 2x2 box hitch on the rear bumper was standard by then, and ETI would mount additional box hitches to the rear bumper for $75 each. I was contemplating adding 2 more, one on each side, mounted to the frame rail. My interest was to provide greater side-to-side stability for a rear-mounted utility box. I was told by ETI that the weight limit for any and all hitches mounted on the back would be 150 lb TOTAL. Divided by three, that would be 50 lb limit per box hitch. Before I could give it more thought, ETI e-mailed me back that they were no longer offering additional rear box hitches as an option - just the one standard one in the middle.

This is not what I got out of my conversations with Reace on the subject. The reason he gave me for not adding two receiver sleeves as I wanted is that they do not want to do anything at all as far as customizing the game of any model in any way. The 150 lb limit is just a safe arbitrary value that is usable for sure, not an engineered one. I estimate the rear cargo box I am building will weight 250 lbs or so, with cargo inside and bikes on top. I have removed the spare tire and am mounting the box on top of the bumper {with the front of box and bumper aligning) using 2 additional receivers (near the frame, and not the existing one) and am not concerned at all with the weight. As this is all my doing, Escape carries no liability anyway.

These photos were my original inspiration for adding additional hitch sleeves to the rear (I apologize for not remembering who to give credit to). My thoughts have since wandered in other directions....
