- There is no factory F-150 option for either rail mounts or gooseneck ball mounts.
- There are various aftermarket kits that install either rails or gooseneck mounts in a F-150.
- The steel rail mounted Andersen hitch takes up less space in the truck bed than the aluminum gooseneck ball-mounted version but leaves two rails remain permanently attached to the truck bed, even when the matching Andersen hitch is removed.

Hope I got that right. Anything I missed?
Thats exactly what I got out of it too... ty

good discussion but could someone post MPG with a trailer and without-- i am looking at options -- for TV --- someone that actually figures out their MPG rather than rely on the onboard computed mileage --- i come up less MPG on my prius when i calculate by hand-- thanx in advance --

phew, I used to track my mileage. the old f250 diesel pig doesn't get the best mileage (actually it did better when I got it and it had a 'tune' in it, but that got reset), but it gets us there, and thats good enough. I'd never use it as a daily driver.

2015 F150 / 2 Wheel Drive / 3.5 EcoBoost / 3.55 Axle / 6 speed transmission / Towing a 2019 5.0 TA

I try driving 62 - 63 MPH (probably spend 50% of mileage at this speed). I drive in the 70's if we want to make time or when traffic is heavy. I don't like traffic building behind me or needing to slow down when wanting to get by me so I keep up with the traffic when on busy roads.

Sept/Oct 2019 trip 13 tank average 13.876 actual - computer said 14.725
Sept/Oct 2020 trip 9 tank average 14.393 actual - didn't do the computer

I just use regular (87 octane), I do not use 88 octane (I believe that is 15% ethanol while 87 is 10%). I think Ford recommends 87 octane.

I hope you understand that 2 different people driving the same vehicle could easily get a much greater spread in mileage than your calculated versus indicted mileage. That said on my F150XL (2016, 6 speed, 2.7 Ecoboost, 3:55 axle, crew cab) the discrepancy between calculated and indicated mileage was always within 1.5 mpg. I stopped worrying about. Towing I’ve done as good as 15 and as bad as 12.5. Not towing general every day is 16- 19, highway and driving in Florida (flat and lots of 50mph limits) I’ve gotten 26 mpg. I was really surprised by that , but it held up for several tanks. Now what this means for you, not much unless your truck is the exact same configuration as mine and our driving habits are the same. For instance I religiously use the tow mode when towing, hardly ever use the sport mode (and never if the wife is sitting next to me), don’t believe in long warm up times in cold weather. Just a difference here can impact mileage.

Mileage input on TV

I want to thank you all who responded --- will be looking to drive mostly a truck without towing and good mileage ( my 2004 tundra might get 15mpg and 11- 12 towing) looking to upgrade for mileage and towing - can i have both? also a truck with least amount of maintenance--- so i appreciate the input....

Me too. After choosing the best truck for the job and deciding to tow a trailer everything else is details.

MAINTENANCE -2015 F150 3.5 EcoBoost - I bought it used in the November of 2018 with 51,500 miles on it. I now have 83,712 miles. Most of those miles are towing. Since I have had it the only maintenance besides oil changes were tires, wiper blades and an air filter.

MILEAGE - as I stated in a previous post 14 mpg give or take towing a 5.0TA. Non- towing around town (computer figured) usually above 16 mpg. On the highway low 20's is not a problem at all.

Apparently, if you turn your radio off, you will get better mileage, because you won't be imperceptibly tapping your foot.

That's me, I'm just not a big fan of a radio, but I found this "Research has shown that listening to music can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness, and memory." I could definitely use help in sleep quality and memory departments!

And, riding with your feet on the dash ( as depicted ) can drive your knees into your eye sockets when the air bag goes off.

or in my case, break your foot when your wife jack-knifes the tent trailer after getting a flat going 80+ in 105F weather inspite of strict instructions to keep it under 60 and stay behind the trucks. was a 2001 E150, no passenger airbags (and the driver airbag didn't go off).

And then there is the puppy, "Sparky", sitting on the driver's lap. Air bag goes off and he becomes "Shreddie" and you're picking hair out of your teeth.

yeah, people who let their "fur kids" ride on their lap, I just dunno. I've seen people driving with a full sized dog standing across them with its head out the window, can't help but think thats gotta block over a 1/3rd of their line of sight ...

hah. we've been shopping for a late model Lexus LS, and while doing my research, stumbled on an 'executive luxury option' back seat avalable for the LS 460L long wheelbase version.

'home, James...'

there's a refrigerator in that arm rest, as well as full HVAC and multimedia controls.
