Toyota tacoma and high lift axle

any one have a picture of a Tacoma hooked up 19' or 21' with either stranded axle or high lift . just trying to get a idea of witch would work with truck better. also if you know your ball height that may also help. THANKS!!

ya maybe I am overthinking stuff. I will have plenty to do I already have a list of mods. plus being locked down have plenty of time on my hands.

We towed our old 17' Casita w our V6 Frontier long bed, crew cab truck w/o incident. ETI said it was fine for the E21 as well, tho they recommended the WD hitch wh we ordered.. I figger we will try it and if NOT a good match, we will move up to a more powerful V8 truck..tho the Tow Cap of the Fronty is 7200 lbs and the trailer is only 1/2 that...and I love the smaller size of the Frontier. The Taco you have should be ok, acc to what ETI told us months ago.
I sent them the receiver-to ground height measurements with truck empty and after a "camping load" was put into the truck bed...which is what they asked for.

2008 tacoma off road with factory towing package and no suspension mods pulling an Escape 19 with E2 WD hitch installed by ETI. The hitch really helps to keep it level.

I live the high life when i am in my trailer.
The trailer is standard not lifted.

I towed a 17 for 10,733 miles & a 21 for 9000 miles with a 2016 Tacoma Off Road. I added Sumo springs to limit drop. Towed the 17 both with & without a WDH. If I remember correctly, I used a 2 1/2" drop stinger to keep the trailer level. Stayed with a WDH with the 21. Both trailers had the high lift axle.

Unfortunately, I did not find the Tacoma enough truck for long distance towing of the 21. It was great with the 17 and I loved the truck, particularly for off roading. I suspect it would have been fine with a lightly loaded 19. The fuel tank was a bit small for towing the 21 where I was getting around 10.5MPH towing at 63MPH. Lots of time in 3rd great at 4000RPM ate gas. Again, it has been my favorite truck, but in 2018 I switched to a Ford F150 3.5L EcoBoost.

Just curious Jon, what difference did it make in your gas mileage switching to the Ford? And are you pleased with the truck overall? Thanks!

The F150 3.5 EcoBoost averages a bit less around town at 17 - 19, about the same highway 21-22, and better towing at 13. This last trip of 7291 miles, average towing was 12.49, however part of that was with failing cam chain rollers. No idea if that has a effect on mileage.

Overall, I preferred the Tacoma for off roading and general driving, however the F 150 is a better tow vehicle. I have never been a Ford person (owned 2 of them in my life & both were nothing but trouble) but other than the failed timing chain roller problem (fixed under warrantee, but a month long wait on parts due to Corona-19), and getting used to a full sized truck and the longer combined length, I like the truck. I do wish someone could shut off the auto lock. I have had multiple dealers try with no success. Some insist it is a menu item (not on this model) and others try to do it with the service computer. Seems like a simple thing, but...
