True or false?
I can tow a 5.0TA over the Rockies with my 2013 F150 Supercrew 4WD 3.5L Ecoboost with a 3.31 ratio axle.
(It's really the axle ratio of 3.31 that concerns me.)
Anybody else use one of these to tow a 5.0?
Thanks,
Frank

Have the 3.73 in the 2012, the only issue I had in the Rockies was learning to come down the mts. Took 1 set of brakes to learn.

These guys are in a 2015 4X4 with the Ecoboost with 3.31 rear end going up to the Eisenhower tunnel with about 3,000 pound more than you will be towing. Very long with 7% grade.

9200# trailer tow capacity
I was a bit suspicious when Trailer Life's tow ratings said this truck could haul 9200#s. After some further research, I find that Ford Motor Company says the exact same thing.
If that's true, maybe I won't have a problem. I don't think I have a transmission cooler and will add one if not.
Thanks all,
Frank

We’ve owned 2 nearly identical trucks ( 2011 & 2014 Ram 1500 V8 ) The only difference was the 2011 had a 3.55 rear end and the 2014 has a 3.92 rear end . Crossing the Rockies at the Eisenhower tunnel there was a noticeable difference in performance .

Your Ecoboost will do just fine with that axle.

True - I have the 3.31 and 3.5EB in our 2017 F150 and it tows our 5.0TA fine in the Rockies. The 6spd transmission will handle it a bit differently than my 10spd but should still be fine for 5000 lbs. Your window sticker lists a trailer tow package as standard equipment so it likely has a transmission oil cooler - just look in front of the engine radiator to verify. And of course make sure your brakes are in excellent shape as these ecoboosts don't provide great engine braking. I worried more about the downhills going over Independence Pass on Hwy 82 (unwittingly) than the uphills.

Great advice Tom, thanks. Will look into the best brakes I can buy before any travel. And I will check in front of the radiator for a transmission cooler.
Safe travels.

We towed our 6,500 pound 25 foot Bigfoot with our 2015 F150 with 3.5 EB 6 speed tranny, and 3.31 rear end. It was no problem. That same rig just plays with our 5.0TA. Mountains are no problem!
We usually lock out 6th gear, tow at 62 mph (1700 rpm's), and so far average 13.6 mpg, measured at the pump, when purely towing.
Enjoy,
Perry
