TV tire pressure increase w/5.0?

I have always increased the air pressure in the rear tires of my truck when towing my 5th wheel (I have had and hauled a 5th wheel for many years). This increase has never been past maximum pressure and helps keep the rear of the truck much more stable when towing. The weight rating on a tire increases as the pressure increases on any tire .... lower tire pressure also allows the tire to run warmer. ... roo low and the tire will blow from the heat. It is just a little air and it is free! Bill

Well put, l do the same. Only thing is I can't seem to find a gas station that doesn't want to charge for air. They aren't service stations anymore.

Hi: AKCamper... While in Fl. I bought a 12V. Kobalt tire inflator at Lowe's. Cheap insurance I thought. Takes a while to work up some pressure but I'm retired... pun intended. Alf

I keep my tow and trailer tires at maximum pressure all the time, the truck tires are 40 and the trailer 50. That said, when towing in hot weather it is not uncommon to see the truck tires go as high as 44 while in use in the sun and then drop to 38 at night. I would never exceed the maximum pressure shown on the tire, if need be get higher rated tires.

CPAHarley, just curious, as we are headed out on a rather long trip next week...did you make it all the way back from BC driving under 65MPH, and just pull long days or did you go the speed limit? Just trying to do research here....

My sweet spot is right around 62-65 mph, in tow mode where I can average 16 mpg. Where the limit is 80 I'll go up to 70 but other wise I try to keep it at 65 in order to "average" 55 mph when considering stops for fuel and dogs. Returning from Osoyoos I drove approximately 51 hours, slept 18, fuel and food stops 10 hours over 3.5 days driving 2800 miles.

I run with the tires at the door sticker spec all the time. In my case 55/60, F/R.
