Weigh Safe Hitch Ball

Does anyone have experience with the Weigh Safe Hitch Ball?

https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Ball/...fe/WSUN-1.html

I've decided to go with a standard hitch ad opposed to weight distribution so I think this could be useful to make sure I have sufficient tongue weight.

Your thoughts?

How much fresh water do you carry when towing a 19? I'll try to empty the black and gray as often as possible but those will be a weight consideration as well.

Thanks,

Dan

It depends on several factors, there's no one answer.

1. Availability of water in a day or two.

2. Terrain; rough or very steep, only enough to get by on, no excess.

3. Normal situation, fill up and go.

I don't have experience with this device, but have questions.
What is the range of the scale? I looked up specs on etrailer and it appears that it may measure up to 1,500 lbs. The instructions with the Sherline scale say that theirs is most accurate at the middle of the gauge range, which is why I got a 1,000 lb. gauge. Trying to read 320 lbs. on a 2,000 lb. gauge is difficult.

Having the scale and gauge exposed to elements and road debris could be a problem ( one year warranty on the scale ).

I've found that my hitch weight doesn't change a heck of a lot between trips, so I no longer use my Sherline every time.

If you do decide to get the Sherline, get it with a 1,000 lb. gauge.

I'm not sure this device is an alternative to a WD hitch. It's nice to know hitch weight to get an idea of trailer load balance but the purpose of a WD hitch is to distribute / balance the tongue weight between the TV and the trailer. One Dan to another.

After posting about the Hensley Hitch and getting feedback from the forum and directly from another 19 owner, I've decided to not use a load distribution hitch. That said, since I don't have a lot of towing experience, and seeing that tongue weight is a critical component of trailer sway, I'd like to give myself every advantage to insure that I don't have a problem.

Being able to check tongue weight seems a reasonable thing to do.

If it's accurate. If it hasn't been damaged. If you haven't lost critical parts.
I'd get the Sherline with 1,000 lb. gauge.

I like the concept but wish they had one made for lighter loads- I doubt the accuracy down near the low end when you get a tiny notch between 100 and 200 or 200 and 300.

Well it wasn't me who gave you that feedback. I've towed trailers all my life and always thought that a WDH was a big clunky thing that I'd never want. Love the WDH with the 19, makes the whole rig feel like it's one unit. Different tugs make have different results but in my case it's perfect.

Ford Ranger, 2 wheel drive, 4 liter V-6. Maybe it works so well is that it's a relatively small tug. Maybe towing with a large brute of a tug there wouldn't be a noticeable difference. Hard to describe the difference, with and without, aside from my headlights pointing skyward. If I have to do more than move the trailer the driveway, on goes the wdh.

We have the weigh safe hitch, the scale is for larger loads and with the low hitch weight of 19 you can only get 300, 400 (right on the line) and whether or not it's closer to the line or to the next line.. etc. For us it's mostly just checking how close it is to 400 or 500...
