Tyring to decide what to get, a 17 or 19.
I have a FJ Cruiser, rated to 5k#, 6 cylinder
What are some of you towing 19' with? Thanks in advance.

I just picked up our19' on May 2nd and am towing it home with a 2013 GMC Acadia 2WD with tow package. I've averaged just over 15 MPG with towing 5000 miles so far and have an Anderson Hitch. The car is rated to tow 5200# and has done an outstanding job for us.

I'm towing my present 17B with a 6 cyl TRD Tacoma, which will also tow the 19 I have on order. (Tacoma is rated for 6,000 pounds) I just bought a 2007 TRD Tundra for the 19, so will likely sell the Tacoma. Tundra is rated for 10,300.

After a year and about 10k miles the Tacoma TRD V-6 Extended cab is a great rig for a 19'. Even with the trailer and truck bed loaded down, there's plenty of power, doesn't bog down on hills, no overheating. We have about 20k miles pulling a 17' Casita with the same truck.

We are towing our 19 with a 2013 Highlander using the Andersen hitch and are very pleased with the setup.

I tow our 2013 Escape 19' with an FJ Cruiser. Use a conventional WD hitch. Very stable, lots of power. Gas mileage towing is about 2/3 to 3/4 of that not towing. Use the Grand Aero Mirrors. Have carried up to 3 canoes on my roof rack while towing the 19'. Love my FJ.

I towed my 19' with my FJ, used an Andersen hitch, had no issues, got close to 15 mpg.

Are FJs comfortable for the driver and passenger on long trips? Can anyone compare the comfort of the ride in their FJ to a 4runner? Our 2005 4runner is a great tow vehicle but the ride is too harsh for our aging backs. And the seats seem small and narrow (SR5 cloth).

If your question is about ride comfortability of the FJ vs Taco vs 4runner, perhaps the FJ forum maybe a better resource. For towing, all 3 are adequate for the 19'. I spent 12 hours towing with mine without any issues and I love driving the FJ. Are the seats comfortable? that is more of a personal preference.

Klem, I have a really messed up back (crushed vertebra) and my FJ is fine - I can drive for 10 hours and feel fine. My brother hates the FJ passenger seat, but I'm not sure why, and his back is OK. Maybe he just needs to adjust it more.

That is Mt Robson in the background. Tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies.

Speaking of FJ's, I saw about 2 dozen in Utah and Idaho and another dozen in Washington and Oregon. Seems to be very popular out west.

While I don't have first hand knowledge of an FJ's ride, I doubt it's any more comfortable than the 4Runner. The suspension/frame design are nearly identical, and the FJ's are known to be a bit more aggressive for offroad usage in all areas (bigger tires, more clearance, more aggressive ATRAC). Google says FJ wheelbase is a few inches shorter as well.
While I really like my 4Runner, I am not a fan of the seats. I'm constantly ogling FJ Cruisers; I dig their looks as well as their simple, sparse interiors. Doesn't help there's one on my street.

I am an XXlarge, so my comfort index starts with leg/knee/head/shoulder room. Do not like that tidy "in the cockpit" feeling I get when the center console extends right into the dashboard. Give me seats with side to side support from the hips up to the armpits every time. A quiet ride is a super ride.
Driving my '96 Tahoe was like driving the living room couch. I loved that. My new tow, a '14 Silverado, beats it.

Myron, I'll bet you get great towing mpg. Can you tell us what it is and do you use a WDH?? I'm guessing NO.

Old Bag still longs for the passenger seat in the '94 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer we used to own.
As the driver, I like to stay awake.

On our first trip, this past weekend, we towed for a total of 345 miles. Elevation increased from 6700 ft to I think 7400 feet. We averaged 16.6 mpg towing on the 180 mile drive home. Nope, no WDH.

We've made two trips with our new 19' pulled by our Tacoma 4-liter V6 Access cab & Anderson WDH. Mileage lower than anticipate (~13 mpg), but was up and down hills (at 4K ~ 5.5K ft level). No problems at all.
Tacoma comfort beats our RAV4 on long trips.

Must be fair to my Toyota friends and mention that drive home was all mostly downhill. Wow I do love it when the dashboard display indicates I'm using 4 cylinders.
