X-Chock Alternative

I noticed that Princess Auto (Canada's version of Harbor Freight) has these tandem wheel stabilizers on sale:

https://www.princessauto.com/en/product/PA0009034125

The actual dimensions stated for each stabilizer are a little vague. Has anyone used this specific style on an Escape? I'm unsure if there would be sufficient wheel-well clearance or distance between the tires.

Alternatively, does anyone have the following dimensions handy for a current gen E19 without an axle lift kit? I did try searching prior posts, but no dice.
- Minimum distance between the tires
- Distance from the wheel centerline to the low-point where the two wheel arches intersect

This info would allow me to measure them in-store and see if they will work....

Looks like they would work but they are going to take longer and need another tool both installing and removing them. I like the x chocks because once they are adjusted you just flip the lever and you are done. (and they clamp plenty tight) Also I have heard that they pop right out if you forget to remove them before pulling forward.

I think I've missed something as im not aware of a lever that you flip after adjusting. I've been using the little ratchet that came with them to tighten and loosen each time I use them.
At work so not near trailer to go take a look at the xchocks.

Sorry, I have these https://www.classacustoms.com/Hengs-...cks_p_348.html they came from Escape included in the starter kit.

Thought they were x-chocks, anyway they work really well, like I said once you get them adjusted you just put them between the tires and flip that black handle down.

I have a set of X-chocks that previous owner Shawn gave me. I hadn't thought of them as stabilizers, just as chocks (I also use standard rubber chocks):
https://www.campingworld.com/x-chock...ack-49876.html

I read somewhere (probably here) recently that you should remove the X-chocks before raising or lowering the trailer, or moving it, as they could tear up your tires.

Here is the Camco version at CanTire - this small size fits my 19 with the adjusting knob at the bottom. I never tried the real x-chocks (all metal), so don't know if this works as well as the real thing.

I wonder how "X" chocks compares to these? I've never used "X" chocks, but the Fastway ONESTEP Wheel Chock works great on the side that is on the ground. For level sites, I use one on each side.

Neat! Looks like they be a lot quicker to install than the X-chocks.

The fast way one step are just chocks, your trailer can still move on it's suspension. The B@lX locks the wheels together so there is little torsion movement, that is my story and I'm sticking to it....

Thank-you all for your comments.

I was able dig up more precise specs for the chocks/stabilizers I was interested in from Princess Auto. They require a minimum 3.5" of space between tires. From what I've been able to search/guesstimate, it looks like the axle spacing on Escape trailers results in tire-to-tire clearance closer to 3"....so no bueno.

I just realized I can get the authentic BAL X-Chocks on Amazon.ca for $66 CAD delivered (initially thought they were much more expensive). Since these are known to fit, I will just go that route instead.

With or without the X-chocks the corner stabilizer jacks keep our Escape from bouncing around.

You may be putting more weight on the trailer frame corners by using the stabilizers whereas the other method is more suspension targeted.

Maybe so. It's beyond my ken either to analyze or to tell the difference.

I think that is what I have. I use a 19mm gear wrench to tighten and loosen them,

I have a pair of chocks for each side of the trailer like this:

https://www.amazon.com/MaxxHaul-5001...68540896&psc=1

We put the stands down if we are staying more than 1 night. We only snug them, not make them tight.

I’ve never seen a reason for anything else, so we don’t use any kind of x-chock.

Like a few other things we bought before we picked up our Escape, we did overkill on chocks (newbie mistake). We bought similar rubber chocks to those Randy linked, Andersen levelers, and the X-chocks. So far, after making the long trek back from Sumas and a couple additional trips, we’ve used the Andersen levelers and/or the rubber chocks to our complete satisfaction.

The X-chocks are still in the box. I might break them out on the next trip just to try them out, but otherwise they’re in the “oops, didn’t need that” file with a few other items.

There is always Dave's famous blue tarp at the rallies where items you do not want are donated and items you did not know you wanted, could be had for free......

The whole reason I use X-chocks is you can lock them. Providing an extra measure that needs to be defeated to steal the trailer. Those don't look like they can be locked.

Mine can't be locked, I don't think, but if they're tightened down might take a thief a few extra seconds to release them with a wrench. . .
