I'd make it "hoping", there's no guarantee it'll come back.

With a 2000 point drop today, I thought about jumping out a window but it’s only about four feet onto the porch, probably just get wet and dirty. Came into the world cold and naked, probably go out the same way.

Lots of folks I know lost triple digits in their retirement savings last month.

At my age, 71, there's no guarantee I'll be around for the recovery.

No guarantees for those who passed away last week before the free fall began. They may have well passed with millions in the bank or in their estate. Still gone
Not many crystal balls out there that work all that well. Everyone has their own personal philosophy and is either prepared for the future or they are not.

That's why I only look at the S&P 500, it only dropped 226.

On the bright side, price at the pump has also been falling.

More bright side.

The DOW hit its Great Recession low of 6,547.05 on March 9,2009

Closed today at *only* 23,851.02

I can live with that.

There's a protest for this announcement in Calgary this coming Sunday. I'm wondering if this is a "red herring" of sorts that Kenny is using to draw attention away from other things he's planning. There's talk within the outdoor community in Calgary that this is a first step in ramping up pricing for parks and rec. The cancelling of grooming of Nordic Trails in Kananskis has got a lot of people upset and they're suggesting that they pay for it out of pocket.

I suspect this thought of "semi-privatization" has a lot of provincial gov't big wigs celebrating.

I am going to stay right out of this conversation, well at least mostly.. As someone who is directly involved in O&G, AND involved in the environmental side, I have a very good understanding of the industry. The current "environmental" issues up here are a direct result of American influence and people with next to no knowledge of the industry jumping on a bandwagon thinking they are going to fix the world. It's oddly convenient that right around the same time the environmental kick started happening up here, the US was slamming pipe into the ground as fast as they could... their production numbers have increased drastically, while here we are fighting with ourselves.

All these protestors will go back to sitting at Starbucks, and living their carbon intensive lifestyle, thinking they won a great war for the environment, yet global emissions will not change one bit...
Hell China's viral setback has lowered their emissions by 30% of our YEARLY results!

Will oil ever be back at $100cdn/barrel, nope. Will other top producers with less environmental and human rights standards continue to ramp production while we sit here like a bunch of school kids arguing on the playground, yup.

We're all directly involved in O&G. For one, we own a pipeline. We also subsidize oil exploration. We drive vehicles and heat our homes.
Your argument is that because somebody else throws more garbage in the ditch, it's OK for us to throw garbage in the ditch.

So I guess I am also a chartered accountant because I have a bank account...

I am involved just a bit deeper than that.

My argument is that if the world is going to fill that ditch you mentioned, which it is, our garbage is cleaner. Usage has been increasing, we can offset global emissions by producing here as opposed to countries who truly do not give a damn. I have worked internationally, and I have seen first hand the lack of care given. We are well ahead of the curve.

I am not going to dive into the debate on subsidies...

Please do not confuse my background here. I work in automation, my entire role is based on advancing tech. We do need to move forward. That is easier done with money available to invest and provide those advances.

Thank you posters

This has become a very interesting thread.

I asked similar ?s a few weeks ago and got shut down. Economics is tied tightly to Politics & vice versa ..very hard to divorce one from another. Our gvt here in 10uhC has some of the same problems w cash flows, which probably will get worse now.
I wonder sometimes if divesting the CG/Park stuff from gvt control might be better..who knows..maybe privatizing with 'pay as you go' wd work.
I'm just wondering.
