Apache Campground, Cloudcroft NM
We really love this campground. Lows in the 50s, highs in the low 70s. Quiet and peaceful, lots of nice hiking trails too. Around 9000 feet elevation. If you want to escape the heat of the southwest summer, this is a nice destination.

Thanks! Any time someone makes a recommendation I add it to my Google Saved Places. One more star for the map!

Looked the campground up - water only sites with a dump station but beautiful. I've been to Cloudcroft years past on a motorbike - 100 plus on the desert floor and almost froze by the time I got to the top.
Thanks Robert, I'll definitely have to stop there sometime.

The road from Cloudcroft down to Sunspot runs along a mountain range. At Apache Point Observatory you can look to the east and see an area larger than Massachusetts. Then at the nearby National Solar Observatory you can look to the west and see the White Sands Desert. It's pretty neat.

Aw, c'mon- that tax line is usually an excuse for many when the truth is an inertial trap for most.

Yes, very true. While at rest it is too easy to stay at rest.

One negative about these campgrounds (Apache, Pine, Saddle, Silver, etc.) is that "generators" are allowed from 8 to 10, noon to 2, and 5 to 7. That hasn't been an issue for us up till now in our stay, but last night a camper pulled in right across the road, and this morning he fired up his construction type generator, not the low noise ones. And of course, campgrounds don't specify which types are allowed.

He does have a nice looking truck though.
Cloudcroft does look nice and will be good to have it saved in my list.
