black bears (california bears) are not interested in humans unless you are holding a hamburger. They are pretty lazy opportunists. so, like the lock precautions people can use to deter theft from trailers, basic precautions will deter a bear. it's pretty much a guarantee that someone else in the campground is disregarding the rules...that's where the bear will go.

Me neither. Around my house bears can roam through hundreds of miles of wilderness to within a few feet of my house. But some of my neighbors are still ignorant and stupid, not making any effort to reduce bear attractants to a minimum. Even doing dumb things like gathering near a bear while snapping selfies. Nothing like helping bears lose their fear of humans. Drove right up behind them, laid on the horn. They weren't amused but it sent the bear packing.

Nothing like having friends over for dinner and hearing a 12 ga. go off on your front boulevard. "What's that?" they say. "Just the conservation officers, a real mis-nomer, killing a bear that was around earlier this afternoon."

I do carry bear spray, two cans actually, but sometimes I wonder if the one in the trailer is primarily for bears.

Given the size of the province of BC, I think the bears should let me enjoy my back yard. I'll leave them alone, if they leave me alone.
I can be fined for putting out my organics can before 5:30 am on the day of pickup. Well, I don't have a garage or a basement to keep it in until then. I have/had a bird feeder, but apparently that attracts bears ( and rats, so I stopped filling it ). I have fruit trees, but those attract bears.

Just leave me alone, and I'll leave you alone.
Bear spray and bear bangers are handily on the dining room table, waiting for a visit.
Friend in Pitt Meadows kept his garbage cans in a shed. They broke in and destroyed the shed and the cans, strewing diapers around the yard. What kind of a neighbour is that?
