I have always kept my trailers parked next to my garage and over the years had to expand the pad as my trailers grew in size. Nice and secure behind a fence and easily accessible.

We have a concrete pad beside our driveway and in front of our garage, that our Escape sits on. I added a 30Amp, 120V AC circuit and receptacle on the garage wall for shore power when at home. That lets us start the frig. on AC power the day before a trip, to pre-cool it.

Plusses: trailer is secure and in sight. It's available for cleaning, maintenance, modifications, and packing for trips.
Minus: it's in front of the garage and not behind a fence, so it's not 100% secure (someone stole our Escape Mapleleaf spare tire cover last month! Everything else has a padlock!)

Keep in mind, there are companies whose sole purpose is to get people out of time shares. They seem to be profitable.

Hi: sofmerc... If you buy one, does that mean a semi permanent location for you to go? Alf

I belong to a huge Facebook group of huge 5th wheels/trailers/moho owners. Lots of their posts deal with seasonal sites. Is THIS what you're asking about?

Personally, I think RVs have wheels/tires for a reason and have no interest in buying something where I'm always going to the same place to use it. BUT, different strokes for different folks... right?

If you want a seasonal site, be sure to read ALL the fine print.... several times. You need to know exactly what your responsibilities are, what's required, what's available, etc.

That said, I'm an Escapee and am on two lists to get a lifetime lease in both parks. While I may live in one, mostly full-time, it won't be living in my Escape 5.0TA. THAT will be used to travel between the two parks.

Good luck!

yes Donna, I'm not talking about storage at home etc but a destination type lot. I'm not considering one but I have a friend that flips them... I buy and sell land and see monthly lot rent in my area at $550-650/month and wondered who is buying and who is renting seasonally. I live in a resort type area ,St Augustine, Florida

My home site has a 15 amp outlet and is all I need to keep it happy in storage. I also have solar.

It's hard to own an RV site independently of the other sites, as one might own a conventional residential property. The site is likely in an RV park and the site will come with an obligation to pay the park operator (which may be a condominium association or similar) a reglar (monthly or annual) fee which could be significant.

There are also RV sites which are "sold" that are really long-term site leases rather than actual purchases of property (with deed); their value drops with time and becomes zero at the end.

Grateful I'm not going to be getting into any of those places! Escapees run their SKP parks totally different. The lifetime lease I'll get will give me 100% of my original lease money back when I decide to give up my site. OR, it is returned to my heirs. And, the yearly HOA fees are about $100 a month. Quite a bargain for all it covers. Perhaps it's all because Escapees SKP parks are non-profit. They're also the largest RV Club in the world

It certainly pays to thoroughly investigate any purchase or lease in a park.

We try to be on the road camping Jan-mid April, June, Sept-Oct, or about 6 months. The rest of the time our 5.0 is sitting in the 250 Campground, .8 mile from our condo. We love walking or biking to the campground to build a fire, eat, drink, and sleep whenever we want. The lot rent is $1,100 a year (sewer/water/electric/wifi) and worth every penny.

Enjoy,

Perry

We own a deeded lot in Idaho. We will be spending this summer there and will be looking for a workamping gig for the winter. The lot puts us near friends and gives access to all of the hiking, fishing, and kayaking that we like to do. The POA fee is $450 per year and the property taxes are about $400 per year. Not too bad.

Our home is in the Cherokee National Forest. We have a site next to our barn where our 5.0 TA is stored. Our friends and relatives use it for free. It has full hookups and is within walking distance of a stream with falls and hiking trails. We also have a small piece of property in the northern state we came from with water and septic. Power to come this year I hope. Same deal, free for as long as you mow the lawn while there!

We will be renting a storage for our 5.0. The search for that is still on.

I was reading this article in the New Yorker on the trailer parks and thought I'd share it here, even though the situation with RV parks, I presume, is likely a bit different from trailer parks.

Like Donna, we are on waiting list for Escapees park lease on East Coast. We’ll have a base both in AZ and in the East that will give us a place when we’re not on the move to hole up.
