Camp Ground Fees

Hi All...

What would be a fair $$$ amount to budget for CG fees based on the following:

Full Services: Grid, water, sewer, cable, internet
Some Services: Grid & water
Any other combos that you might have experienced

All of the above, specific to US vs Canada?

Location, location, location. Season, season, season

We have wonderful state parks here in Oregon. None have cable and only a couple have WiFi. Lots of free hot water in clean shower houses! No difference in price between full hookups and one with just elec & water.

Discovery Season (Oct. 1 - Apr. 30) $23
Prime Season (May 1 - Sep 30) $29

Hi: Stargeezer... Most CG's on the oceans are "Pay per view". Backing onto the Bay of Fundy was the most expensive for us...but still worth it. KOA's are $$$$'s if you want all the trimmings. Alf

We travel instead of camp, a lot of commercial stops and when you go south of Oregon and within 500 miles of the coast we find $50 to $70 very common. Then in the CA state beach parks you may need to reserve a good spot months in advance. I am looking forward to the lower rates in the $20's next year as we go east and North, we just won't have the sound of the waves hitting the shore. We always spend about $100/day traveling for gas and camp ground fees, less when we stay in one place for a few days.

There are some discount clubs, KOA and Good Sam offer 10% and Passport America offers 50% off. These fees can range anywhere from $15/night to $50/night. State Parks can range from $20-$30 night usually with water/electric. Dumping facilities are available.
Senior Pass available for US National Parks and BLM c/g's for 50% discount lifetime pass.
Then there is always's Alf's driveway for free, but you have to wait until he hits the road

We pretty much stay in non commercial parks unless we have no choice. $20-40 is the norm, some have hookups some don't., have gone up to around $50 in more touristy areas that have all the fixings. Many hit you harder if you are not a local. When stuck at commercial CGs $40-50 is more the norm.

Big discounts at many if you stay for long term.

We tried to spec out our 19' so we will be able to avoid commercial cg's. By reducing cg cost, we will be able to justify more nights in the Escape. With the senior discount, I can stay in the Smoky Mountains NP for $8 -$11 per night. My idea of a good campground is spectacular scenery in a natural setting. A line of cement aprons with big rigs lined up doesn't fit my ideal. Not for everyone, but.....

Probably the most expensive cg last year, but the sunset and sunrises were spectacular, Bar Harbor , Me KOA, probably the least expensive, a POA cg at a Scamp rally in Nebraska, but Pioneer Village was fascinating and included. So cg fees really doesn't measure the fun you can receive.

And, then there's BC Forest Service campgrounds ( you can Google a list ). No services. Outhouse. Picnic table.
$12 a night / $6 if you are over 65. We spent five days on a lake near Merritt for $30.

I've paid everything from $0.00 to $80.00 (ouch - a KOA concrete slab in Ontario where there was nothing else). My average for a 138 day trip in 2012 was $24.99. A spreadsheet of the campgrounds & $ is here.

So far on my current trip (75 days) I'm averaging a bit more at $25.17.

While I sometimes stay in dry campgrounds, particularly in National Parks, most sites have at least electric hookups. Since I usually only stay at a site for a day or two, I rarely need or use sewers, but water is handy.

Corp of engineers campgrounds are always a plus and with a senior pass, usually under $20.

$38 full services, $28 some services at private CGs. $9 or $10 at many Army Corps CGs for seniors, double if not senior.

I never did fully understand why deals would be given to seniors. As a senior I will be WAY better able to afford the full price, compared to when I was a young adult with young kids. Seems kinda bass ackwards to me, but you do see it in many places, not just some campgrounds.

Most seniors camp without children and a lot are on fixed income pensions, thus the need for more socialistic approach of some sort of relief.

Seriously, most are on fixed incomes? I know of next to no seniors of fixed incomes, the vast majority have their retirement savings to go on. Maybe it is a regional thing? Most seniors I know are way better off now, than when they were younger.

Actually RIFs and LIFs are also fixed …… there is always a minimum - one may of coarse take more however take too much at once and you end up in an undesirable tax bracket …..
