Golden, CO has a way cool downtown, and the city has built a very nice campground two blocks from downtown, and right along the river.
While the sites are on the spendy side ($45 to $55 a night), the location and setting is what makes this place special. We love to walk everywhere, and this close in location makes walking to restaurants and attractions a breeze. I would rather leave the TV parked for a few days.
The campground is small, has about 35 sites, so reservations are a must.
In our trips out west, it seems like the greater Denver area is a natural stopping place. Our first time, we stayed in Golden for just one night. Last trip it was four nights...
Clean bathrooms and nice laundry facilities. If you are into bicycling, one of the city's bike paths runs right along the side of the campground.
