Favorite New England Campgrounds

We camped almost every other weekend once campsites opened up in New York & New England for new reservations beginning July 4th weekend. Our last fall trip was 9 nights in a row.

Our Escape provided us with an unforgettable summer and fall! It would have been gloomy this year without it. Favorite places this year...

North of Boston
Cape Ann Camp Ground - full, partial or no hookups, with facilities. Visually unique with glacial boulder erratics all around. Some smaller trailer sites for 17s and 19s tucked away in the nooks and crannies of the property. Easy access to charming Rockport and Gloucester, close to Boston. Saw a 21!

South of Boston
Myles Standish State Park - no hook-ups, with facilities. Many amazing smaller sites with direct campsite access to clean kettle ponds for 17s and 19s. Pond sites have their own mini beaches. Larger sites available for larger trailers. Plymouth, Northern Cape Cod and close to Boston.

New Hampshire - South Central
Pillsbury State Park - no hook-ups or facilities. This is a gem, don’t tell anyone. Need to book many months out because it’s so small. Rural New Hampshire at it’s best, go here for outdoor activities

New Hampshire - North Central White Mountains
Moose Brook State Park - no hook-ups, with facilities. Another gem. Quieter and much smaller than the other campsites in White Mountain National Forest. Go here for Mount Washington region access, the outdoors, hiking and amazing mountain biking trails. Canada is 45 mins. away. Couldn't go this year. :-(

If I had to pick one, I'd say Cobscook SP in northern ME was our favorite.

Joel,
Thanks for posting the campground suggestions and pictures.
We make several trips to New England each year to visit grandchildren and camp. We're always on the lookout for new places to check out.

Who knows. Maybe we'll cross paths one of these days.

Well, this place is now on my short list. The layout of the campground is amazing, running all along the coves and bay. Very nice.

Mooring campground in Belfast Maine has a great overlook on the Atlantic and a charming small town center and an hour from Acadia

If you do go...
Lobsters off the boat in Cutler
Campobello
Quoddy Head
You can take the camper on the ferry off Campobello to Deer Island, there is a pretty cool campground on it if you can get reservations, it sort of overlooks the Old Sow.

There are also a number of campgrounds where you can have a lobster dinner delivered to your site (cooked or not). One that I've stayed at is Lamoine State Park, about 20 miles from Acadia National Park.
